Adam was fantastic. The other men wore dark suits but Adam shows up in a white suit, sort of like the white hat cowboy arriving to save the day. Did anyone else notice the camera work for Adam’s performance? When he sang that very long note, the camera was from afar and moved towards him and to his right and circled around him and then to his left.

^ yes Adam stages the performance with care. He is an entertainer. His voice is amazing. Allison’s voice is unique and I have been a fan of hers. I thought the judging was weird tonight, so it is really risky for any of them. I would say Matt may be gone, but only becasue he was gone before and may have less of a fan base. So who are the “vote for the worst” people backing? There really is no worst at this point. I can’t remember a season where the top 5 have all been so solid.
A side comment: Boy is Kris slight. He is smaller than Ryan. Just realized it this evening. But he is cute and the teeny boppers are probably voting for him.

Spent the evening switching back and forth between Idol and the Caps-Rangers game. Go Caps!

I have been a fan of Kris from the start but I didn’t agree that this was his best performance tonight. And I really wish that he’d shave that upper lip, it really is a sad attempt at a moustache.

I’ve never been a fan of either Allison or Danny and tonight was no exception. Didn’t really enjoy either of them.

I really enjoyed Matt tonight, even though it was not a perfect performance.

As much as I enjoy Adam and think he’s incredibly talented, and so far ahead of any of the others, it does get a bit embarrassing how they tend to showcase his performances. Everything from the blocking to the lighting to the camera work, it’s just all so different than it is for the other contestants. Having said that, tonight was another excellent performance.

As for his professional work prior to Idol, that is not a disqualification, obviously, or he wouldn’t be there. Many Idol contestants through the years have worked professionally prior to being on Idol. Several have even had previous recording contracts, and have released CDs, including Matt Giraud. Allison won a previous Idol type competition on Telemundo where she won a significant monetary prize. A few other Idol contestants who have had professional careers prior to the show were Taylor Hicks, Melinda Doolittle, Blake Lewis, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Sligh, Ace Young, Lisa Tucker, among many, many others. The qualifier is that they may not be currently under contract while competing.

As I said, it’s my PERSONAL backlash.

Youdon’tsay, my comment was more in response to Teri’s post than to yours. She was questioning whether Adam should be eligible. As I said, he isn’t the only one to fit the ‘professional experience’ label.

I also feel Idol gives Adam the edge. While I understand he is a true performer, he gets the last time slot, the flashy entrance, and the good guy white suit over the other guys black suits. Are the differences Adam’s choices or Idols?

And yes, Adam is in a totally different league from the rest!

I love Adam, so my opinion is biased, but I think all his previous experience makes him more deserving of a win. He has truly put himself out there, and has worked very hard doing anything and everything he could to make it in the music business. Every contestant that ever tries out for American Idol talks about how this is their dream. Adam is the only one who has truly put in the work to make that dream come true.

I can’t wait to see him sing tonight.

alwaysamom - I knew that others had ‘experience’, and what qualifies it as professional for the AI rules, I guess is what’s important. No doubt he wouldn’t be on there if there was a conflict with the rules. I don’t know what the others have done professionally, but playing Fiyero is quite the coup (even if just the us), and I would think is by far, a more visible performing role than other AI contestants. Makes me wonder if all the MT performers are going to start coming out of the woodwork now.

teri, that’s what I fear. I mean, obviously, he’s crazy talented, but I couldn’t stand a dozen showboats! (nothing against MT types on the board!)

I do think Adam has an awesome voice, but it’s very theatrical & controlled. Not what I think of as AI type - so I do hope his success won’t bring out all the MT people. If that’s what folks want, I’d rather they had a MTI for that purpose!

Over the years, I seem to recall, many MT types trying out and Simon always saying no to them. I remember that being Simon’s second favorite insult (after kareoke). Adam crossed over with his edginess in “ring of fire” and “satisfaction” and his stripped down rendition of “tears of a clown”. Yes tonight he went a bit more theater than rock with that entrance (you have to admire how he strutted down those stairs). But I would not say that all the MT people will be ending up in the top 10 in future seasons. Just as they make sure not to select all rockers.

Adam is definitely talented but I can’t imagine him as a recording star. In my opinion, he always seems to be “playing a character” when he sings. I enjoy when the honesty, passion, and true soul of a singer blends with the vocals. With Adam, I feel like he’s playing the role of an imaginary character in costume while the others project a sense of self.

I think Matt will be sent home. I like Kris as a personality-he’s cute; Danny doesn’t do anything for me-I don’t know why. I hope Alison will stay and being a musical theater fan, I enjoy watching Adam.

Awesome night, but I don’t understand Simon’s comments supporting Matt. I thought he was clearly the weak link among the five. I hope Simon’s comments don’t sway people towards voting Matt over Allison. Thought she was awesome, as were the other three guys. I thought Danny was the real standout tonight as he let the song shine instead of giving the theatrical performance that Randy talked about Adam delivering.

Danny and Allison were my least favorite tonight. I just don’t like the qualities of their voices.

Teri, there have been many MT kids on Idol through the years and many, many more who have auditioned and not made it through to the finalists. This year, the girl who is currently Mimi in Rent made it to Hollywood week and then was eliminated. Constantine Maroulis was Roger in Rent. Just to name a couple. More than a dozen theatre kids whom I know personally have been on the show, and even more whom I don’t know have been on and afterwards gone on to do more theatre. I’ve been saying this all along that many of the best voices in the country are onstage in musical theatre venues. Adam was a standby for Fiyero in one city. I’m sure he has some fans from that experience but I think his appeal has blossomed as each week has passed and he obviously has many people voting for him who have never set foot in a theatre, let alone heard of Wicked.

I wish Kris had done something by Michael Buble or Harry Connick Jr. But I liked his performance until the last note.

i love david archuleta last year and assume he was the american idol of 2008. then “ban!” the bubble bursted… maybe my choice is just like the kiss of death…

I vote Matt and Danny in the bottom two.

Burn This post #1335 - LOL.

I missed half of tonight’s show… so that’s how qualified I am to comment .

Not an Allison fan here… but she was really a wow performance tonight, even just based on the recap.

Matt seems to be taking over in what Megan excelled at - doing better in the rehearsal than in the performance.

Kris, whom I love (can he possibly have a better smile?) and Adam, who is so impressive, didn’t impress me tonight. Not Danny either. I only saw Kris in the recap… is there any way I can see and hear him online?
