New American Idol thread

somewhere earlier on this thread is a link to a site called bashhh that has videos up the next day. Maybe they’re up already?

[url=<a href=“Daily Contributor - Your Daily Contributor for News, Technology, Sports, and Entertainment”>Daily Contributor - Your Daily Contributor for News, Technology, Sports, and Entertainment]American Idol: Kris Allen sings ?The Way You Look Tonight? (video) | Daily Contributor/url.

I take back what I said about Kris - I thought he was great. (Reminds me that I’m always mystified by the clips they choose for the recap).

Kris definitely is going into overdrive on the charisma and the bedroom eyes. I think he is sailing through with the bopper vote (although I agree he was good). I am worried about Allison getting kicked, but I think she will get a record deal right away anyway. Or it may be Matt. It could be anyone though.
Thanks for the links. It is fun to “watch it back” like Simon.
I also agree about last season. It did seem as if the little David would win. It was a big surprise to me, who like the big David better.

Paula actually said something reasonable last night when she compared Adam to Michael Phelps. Every week Adam just wins another medal.

I loved Adam and Danny in very different ways. As Simon says, they are going for it! (I wonder who he thought the third person was?). Couldn’t stand Matt–off-key. I thought Allison did a fine job. Kris was very cute but boring.

I think the best part of the show last night were the looks on Randy & Kara’s faces right after Adam finished. They looked like they didn’t know what just hit them. I thought Adam was the best, followed by Allison. Why can’t that poor girl get more votes?

I’m going to date myself, but does anyone else think Adam reminds them of Sam Harris from Star Search?

With this kind of classic American song, to me “it don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.”

Danny can swing. Danny has soul. Danny sings like a man, not a boy, and has a voice that knocks me out. He concentrates on making an emotional connection with the audience through the song, and the exact nature of the connection depends on the song, as it should.

Adam is certainly a super vocalist, but to me he is too caught up in showing off vocally to be truly effective as a performer. I think he should have trained for something more along the lines of opera. I can’t really see him in MT, because he’s always projecting the same fey thing that isn’t anywhere near a leading man. (I can certainly see why he admires Freddy Mercury and David Bowie.)

Kris is certainly a good singer, but he’s like a weaker version of Adam, to me. He would be fine in some kind of well-scrubbed pop vocal group.

I like Allison, and she is really amazing for her age. But she really didn’t know what she was doing with that song. She came across to me like someone with a really catchy voice who was performing a song in another language that they had learned phonetically.

I don’t get why Matt is still around.

Of course, since I can’t get AI on tv, my impressions are based solely on the performance clips from the web site. I don’t see any of the prep.

BurnThis, the comparison to Sam Harris is a great one! I have seen Sam perform onstage dozens of times and he is incredibly talented, and the sweetest guy ever. He’s still my favorite Doody in Grease! If he’d been in the most recent Broadway revival, the show would probably still be open. He also does a rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water that is absolutely beautiful. I hope that Adam has as wonderful and varied a career as Sam has had, and that he finds the beautiful personal happiness that Sam and Danny and their son have. :)

Just got my issue of TV Guide with a cover article about Simon and AI.

He isn’t picking Adam to win it…He sees a final of Danny and Adam. He says that Danny “is safe” and hasn’t taken as many risks.

Can Adam be a star? “One hundred percent. He’s somebody who should be selling records all over the world. He’s that good. He could sing the phonebook, and a lot of producers will want to work with him.”

What about Danny? "Not so much. He’s more American. He’ll do very well here. But when you do a show like this, you hope you’re going to find somebody so unique, so different, who can represent the show all over the world. And that’s more Adam than Danny. Adam’s in control of what he does, down to the nail polish. Imagine what the competition would look like without him. He’s shaken everything up, this boy.

His favorite performance: “Mad World”.

I just can’t see anyone winning except Adam. He has the star power, the determination to make it, a good and healthy vocal technique for lasting power and already has some understanding of the business. Although I really like Chris, Adam is really the one that I would try to catch on some of the follow up publicity shows - Leno, Conan, Kimmel, the morning shows, Ellen, etc. The others are just boring in comparison - especially Danny - IMO.

^^^ true, but you have to remember who is doing most of the voting…

For anyone interested, Anoop dropped out of graduate school (He was getting his Masters in Cultural Anthropolgy) and is pursuing a record deal.

I must be old too because I remember Sam Harris on Star Search. I believe he won that in 1984, the year our first child was born. And I believe I later saw him as Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. I remember him being short.

Are you sure Anoop dropped out? He took the Spring semester off to be on Idol, but I would assume he would go back in the Fall and finish. Of course he can always take a few semesters off and see how it goes.

Yes. He decided not to return in the fall (he could always go back later if his music career doesn’t pan out).

Go for it Anoop - if he expects to marry my daughter, he needs to be able to support her - and me.

Matt sounded better in the opening number than he did last night…what a shame!

$6K bill to clean their mess!! omg. that was a waste of good food. :)

what’s the right side of the stage???
