New American Idol thread

I also thought Simon was inappropriate and the judges behaved like little children last night. Kara seems to be increasingly manic with each episode. I thought Paula’s choice for Danny was awful. The song had a range of about three notes and no melody.

I am a huge Adam fan, especially softer songs like Mad World, but I also like Adam’s “scream”. I just wish he didn’t include the scream in so many of his songs. It seems to be one his trademarks, but I would like him to keep the audience guessing as to when we will hear it. If he makes it a special treat, we won’t tire of it.

Did anyone notice Kris had blue nail polish on his thumb? I love him for that.

I agree, and last night I couldn’t quite figure out why I felt so annoyed. Today on The View, Elizabeth made a comment about Simon going over the top with telling everyone how he had personally called Bono (and had lunch with him) to get Bono’s blessing for Adam singing his song. I thought it was inappropriate for Simon to go on and on regarding what Bono thought of Adam. Don’t they have to get a release from all the original singers for AI contestants to sing their songs?

I also noticed Kris’ (chipped) nail polish and had to look again to make sure they weren’t mistakenly showing video of Adam!

Blue nail polish…sigh I wish I voted for him.

I voted several times for both Adam and Kris but had a really hard time getting through and gave up. The voting block for Danny is really strong - not sure who it is but they must be really dedicated.

I kept trying to vote for Kris, too, (first votes this season) and could never get through.

If the contestant has more than one number to call, I dial the second or third number given and have not had a hard time voting. I was getting lots of busy signals with the first number.

I don’t think Simon was plugging Adam in regard to the Bono thing. I think he was name dropping, as in “I am so cool I can ‘ring up’ Bono and as a personal favor to me (Simon), he will allow a lowly contestant to sing his song”. That is what Ryan was teasing him about. AI has a catalog of approved songs but some artists do not allow their songs to me used. Do you remember in past years when it was a big deal to get to use Beatles songs and the controversy early on about Kelly Clarkson allegedly not allowing her songs to be used?
As for Simon’s comments on voting, I do not think it was inappropriate because all he said was that don’t assume Adam will just “sail through”. He said that those who want to see Adam in the final must vote. I think this was in response to Randy, Kara and Paula saying in their comments on Adam’s performance things in the nature of that Adam was assured of a spot in the final next week. Afterall, Simon called Danny’s second performance a vocals “master class” and told Kris that after his second performance he could not be counted out. Sure Simon and the AI producers want a huge audience for the final show and I don’t think the tv audience would be as big without Adam in the show. Adam is spectacular or a spectacle, which ever way you view him, you sure are going to watch. Maybe not so much if the final showdown is Danny vs. Kris.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for Adam.

curious, I agree. I’ll be happy if it’s a Kris v. Adam for the final and I’ll be happy with either of them winning.

I’ll be flipping back and forth between it and the Pens/Caps hockey game, unless of course, the Pens have a huge lead by then. It’s already 2-0! :)

Re: Bono. I think Simon was name-dropping with the intent to be silly. Just my read on it. He was making fun of his own gigantic ego. At least, that’s how I prefer to see it? … Predictions for tonight? Danny’s outta here. :(

Hockey? Hockeeeee? Um, you really ARE Canadian, aren’t you, alwaysamom? :)

I am gonna have to watch Lost tonight…it is the season finale and I just can’t wait till tomorrow. I will flip over to check out the final result at 9:58 pm. At this point though, it just dosen’t matter to me. All three are talented and will have careers ahead of them if they wish to actively persue it. History has shown this to be true.

Predictions? Gokey’s a goner :)

hindoo, yes! Actually, I have dual citizenship although I was born in the U.S. I’ve been a hockey fan from about age 12, spent much of my youth in arenas in the south Jersey/Philly area. The son of friends is playing tonight and so we always cheer for his team since our team here in Toronto has been a lost cause for about 40 years. :)

There’s a strange sub-set of humanity in Central Kentucky that seems addicted to hockey, from the high school level to the minor league pros. (We used to have the “Thoroughblades,” but there weren’t quite enough fanatics to support them. :frowning: ) … Speaking of Toronto, my younger daughter spent spring break there, by herself, couch-surfing with total strangers. My hair turned a lighter shade of gray, but she had the time of her life. Met a lot of interesting people … and some whackos.

hindoo, we actually have some family who live in Kentucky. I’m glad your D had fun in Toronto, it’s a wonderful city, if I do say so myself. I’ve heard of that couch-surfing phenomenon but don’t know anyone personally who has done it. I’m glad she had fun!

alwaysamom…me too! 2 goals in 8 seconds…go Pens! I think I’m going to watch the game the last half hour, 9 to 9:30,(unless it’s a blowout) and dvr AI. The darn show has a half hour of commercials, so it’ll actually be nice to zip through AI in 30.

Who are the guest performers tonight? A coworker said there are two, but forgot who they are.

Toronto was the kindest, gentlest place for her to travel alone–and couch surf! It was colorful, smart, entertaining, and filled with its share of curious crackpots; but also lovely in every way imaginable. Judging by her enthusiastic verbal travelogue, I’d say she’s a candidate someday for dual citizenship–like you. :)

You Canadians also like that rather “interesting” sport called “curling?” Strange, but mesmerizing. I couldn’t stop watching it during the last winter olympics. At 3:00 in the morning. Eh?
