<p>Alan Webb ran 3:46.91 in a race set up for him in Belgium today. Broke Steve Scott’s 25 year old mile record. Alan is one of my personal heroes. He has had an uneven career. WildChild and I joke because every time Webb has a bad race all the track forums say, “He’s Done.” This has been a great season for him, culminating of his goal of breaking the American mile record. Steve Scott is happy for Alan and glad it was he who broke the long-standing record.

<p>Ahhh…we have a great town swim team association (9 teams of 100 swimmers each, ages 6-18). Alan was a great swimmer too, and finally decided to be more serious about his running–so he gave up swim team! What fun it was to time him in races at the pools and congratulate him on his track achievements, too. He still has a couple of individual team records (when he was a 13-14 yr. old) and some of his old swim teammates share a League best 15-18 Medley Relay record. He still lives in our town, we see him at the Y, and out running–he is a very nice guy!</p>

<p>Yeah- maybe the next mile record will be set by WildChild! When he was 9 years old we bought him some pajamas at Gap to take on our vacation to Colorado. When we were packing, I asked him where the pajamas were. He said, “I’m saving them for Sydney!” (the site of the next Olympics)</p>
