New Bedding for Us

I have never really had super nice bedding.

We are in the process of moving and will be buying all new furniture, and I want some new bedding. We will be in a four-season climate, though not one with protracted severe winters.

Even though we have tons of storage space (something unknown to us for many years), I am trying to stay in my minimalist mindset about, “stuff.” I’d prefer to not have multiple sets of bedding.

I think I want a duvet with a cover that is of a fabric I can wash at home. We will have a king-sized bed. I primarily want neutrals/solids for the main pieces (no floral, grandma bedspreads). Walls are white. White bedding might make it all too white?? Though I love that hotel look and the ability to bleach.

What brands of bedding do you like and what inspo might y’all have for me? Weight of insert? How to, “style,” the bed?

Dh is very anti-multiple pillows but will allow some. I want a clean, simple, but sophisticated look.

Not crazy expensive, but not big box retail quality either.

TIA!

I have the Costco hotel sheets, they are very good and soft. Held up well. Stupid feature I like, they label what is top or bottom and what is a side. Never knew I need that

For various reasons, not a big fan of white bedding. I like Garnet Hill colors. My duvet cover right now is from Parachute, it’s a neutral herringbone pattern.

I’m not familiar with premium brands so I’m not much help.

Not super impressed with the bedding that is advertised everywhere

We love our sturdy Lands End Oxford Cotton sheets which we have at both our house and cabin, one set only for each bed as I wash and put right back on. They last forever. I have a complementary duvet cover for the comforters.

(I’m a pillow gal.)

Beware of duvet covers not being exact same size as the duvet even if advertised as such! For this reason, I got us a Westin Heavenly Bed duvet set. Everything fits perfectly. Sheets are the same as those @deb922 has! Our mattress is Four Seasons branded, and we love it! After staying at that hotel, we decided that it was worth overpaying to get exactly what we tried at the hotel.

This is true. If you sew, it’s incredibly easy to make a perfectly-sized cover from a couple of extra sheets (I like coordinating stripes with solids).

We bought new bed/headboard and bedding a few months ago. We added more pillows( I love) and got rid of a duvet cover. I got tired of taking the cover off to wash it and wrestling with it to put back in. Like noted above, I never felt it fit right either.
Sheets are white, from Company Store, cotton.
On top of that I have a light down comforter ( previously our duvet insert) and on top of that I now have a bedspread/quilt. That, along with pillow cases and shams came from Boll and Branch. Neutral colors. Pillow cases have a print, everything else solid. Bought all new king size pillows and 3 euro size.

The Company Store. They have a wide variety of duvets, covers, and sheets that are easily mixed and matched.

We use a light weight quilt. In the colder weather, we put a fleece blanket underneath. The quilt serves as our “bedspread” I guess. I can wash both in my washer.

When we ditch the current arrangement, we will likely get a platform style bed with a memory foam mattress which we have now…and like.

I tried a duvet cover (maybe two?). Just could not make it work right. We now use a thin bedspread (comforter size) plus a down comforter that we fold down toward foot of the bed. We did order the large bead spread version, and honestly it was tricky to make the bed unless two of us did it together. This arrangement works better for our method - whoever gets us last makes the bed.

I like percale sheets. At one point I liked a set from Costco but I didn’t see what I wanted the last few times I’ve bought sheets. I’ve ordered from and liked Garnet Hill, Company Store and Serena and Lily. I have a set of Serena and Lily percale sheets on my guest bed and every guest comments on how they loved the sheets. (My daughter lives near a Serena and Lily outlet and I like to stop when we visit)
My duvet right now is from Serena and Lily. On other beds in the house I have duvets from Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn.
It is frustrating when the insert doesn’t fit the duvet.
My sister recently ordered sheets and a duvet from Quince and was happy with the quality.

We use a down blanket from Company Store as our normal bed cover for much of the year. I have purchased duvet covers for over it, but we tend not to like them. We have a queen sized bed but use a king sized blanket. It’s larger than others that are labeled king.
For the summer I have a (Company Store) quilt, that is very light.
Restoration Hardware (now RH?) is where a previous bedspread/quilt came from.
I have liked Hotel Collection sheet sets from Macy’s (never purchased at full price), and Nordstrom organic cotton sheets (usually on anniversary sale in July).
I “invested” in Boll and Branch sheets and they didn’t thrill me. Nordstrom did have them as part of their Anniversary sale within the last couple of years if you’re interested. I would consider Brooklinen if I was looking for new sheets.

Macy’s Friends & Family sale ends this weekend. My sister was buying bedding there and my kids have also purchased bedding from Macy’s.

This thread caught my eye today as last night, after about 35 years of use, I threw out my down comforter. Why? It’s like I have a goose on my bed and every morning I wake up with a ton of down on my floor, blankets, etc. I loved that comforter and it rarely ‘shed’ until recently. There were a couple of times in those 35 years when I didn’t use it, but mostly I did. It was fine for most seasons, but I did have additional blankets for the winter and sometimes I folded it at the bottom of the bed for the summer. I like my room very cold, summer and winter.

I think I got it at Dillard’s or Macy’s all those many years ago. It was expensive (although I’m sure I had a coupon as I always do) but worth it. I’d also recommend the Company Store or Vermont General Store. If you go through LLBean, they’ll replace any sheet that wears out early (or earlier than you think it should).

I do not like the micro fabric sheets they sell now. It is getting harder and harder to find 100% cotton.

OP: Judging from the photos shared, why not hire @ChoatieMom as your interior decorator ?

She could offer us bed making lessons. Her bed looks so nicely made.

Aw, gee, thanks.

I’m anal about bedmaking. You may not want to be me.

The master in our Boston house needed to be made just so…

Other beds I’ve attacked:

See a pattern…?

@ChoatieMom : I want to know how you made the upper bunk. :astonished:

Carefully and not often as it was our son’s guest bunk (ladder not in photo). There was a play loft above the upper bunk accessed by a trap door in the “roof” of the bunk.

DH’s handiwork:

It’s hard to see, but there is no top sheet on the bunks, just a twin comforter folded in half lengthwise atop the fitted sheet, so no need to tuck anything on the wall side.

I can barely make a twin that’s tucked against the wall in a corner.

Are these the sheets you’re talking about?
