New Bway Studio

I auditioned in NY on the 28th of Jan. I don’t know when their tour is over to start hearing from them, but when you hear a decision… Post it on here!! This is for Regular Decision, btw.

Good Luck to Everyone! I’m so nervous… NYU is my top school :)

NYU notifies all applicants around April 1. A couple of weeks earlier (mid March), some who are admitted, will get an invitation to an admitted students’ event (which implies they will be getting an acceptance letter on April 1) and others won’t get that invitation but may still be accepted on April 1. Nobody will hear before these invitations in mid March however. They do not admit on a rolling basis.

The “Clara” in the upcoming Light in the Piazza at Arena Stage in DC (same theatre where Next To Normal arose), and a recent Luisa in The Fantasticks at Snapple came from a medium size state school with a BA in Music/classical voice and then went on to NYU for a Masters in Musical Theatre. She’s doing very well. So remember NYU for grad school. You can have a second chance at the place! :)

I’m so sorry for being a butt about this, but Next to Normal actually started in New York. It was “Feeling Electric” for a while, and then the first time it was called Next to Normal was at Second Stage, Off-Broadway. However, they made a bunch of tweaks and a few cast changes and then Next to Normal in its current incarnation opened at Arena Stage in DC, and then transferred to the Booth on Broadway. Sorry I’m such a dork.

But yeah, NYU’s grad school is definitely an option for me, at least.

Just to clarify, the Masters in Music Theatre Performance is in Steinhardt not Tisch.

And, yes, wisdomsomehow does, indeed, have wisdom. Next to Normal had been around for several years, and several incarnations, prior to its run at the Arena Stage. I saw a reading of it, when it was Feeling Electric, way back in 2002 at The Cutting Room in NYC.

All you smart folks! The point being, Arena Stage is a theatre worthy of respect, and a BA from a school not at the top of anybody’s list that I have heard here at CC followed by a Masters from so many’s first choice school might just be a decent path to sucess! So think about grad school, even now. Your voice will be more mature, you will be more mature, you only have to pay for two years of an expensive out of state school, grad school generally speaking has fewer people trying to get in - It’s all good to think about.

actually, I know of a former Spring Awakening tour cast member currently at that same college. She’s a wonderful performer, and clearly good enough to be cast in the original cast of a national tour!

haha I’m sorry for being such a contrary butt.

My D got a letter from the MLKjr scholarship program today. It doesn’t say which program, just that she will be recieving an acceptance letter later and that she should attend a scholarship program in late March.

Congrats!!

@kellanah! got mine this past monday too! So excited about the MLK scholars program!!! =D

I’m an MLK scholar, so I also found out that I am in Tisch. Then again, Kellannah is my mother, so I guess that is obvious. LOL.

Any more news on this studio? I’m surprised there’s nothing with decision time coming so soon.

Thanks!!! I had actually already seen those- just wondering if anyone with any “insider” NYU info knew how the studio was shaping up! haha

Nothing major. Nobody’ll really know until next semester and they’ve taken classes. All I know is the costume people are holed up underground in Tisch because they’ve closed the costume shop in order to build the studio. Somehow think they’re going to complete the new studio between when summer starts and when school starts back up. Not a question of if, they have to. I’m just glad I’m not the construction worker.

On another note, Kent Gash is amazing.

soozievt- do you know approximately when these facilities will be finished? Are they shooting for the September 2010?

I have no inside information but believe they are aiming for September as the first class for this studio will be entering at that time.

Most of the facilities for the New Studio will probably have to be done by the beginning of the summer because the NYU Tisch High School Pre-College program will now be done through ETW, Stonestreet, New Studio Acting, and New Studio Musical Theater. So I’m guessing that if they are using the New Studio instead of CAP to train the pre-college people during the summer, then at least some of the facilities will have to be finished.
