New Details in the Zimmerman-Martin Controversy

Oh, this made me spit out my water on my keyboard. I had no idea that was in their law. Subtle. :D

Bravo, Zoosermom! I fully support aggressive efforts such as Zooser’s, which aid people in claiming full franchisement in American society. In fact, I think a national ID card is an excellent idea. It should be something the federal government issues to all legal residents of the United States. And given the push to require voters to show ID at the polls, a constitutionally guaranteed right, I think these IDs should be issued at no cost to individuals attempting to exercise this right. That would, however, require that federal monies be spent to issue them to every eligible voter, much the same way the government issues social security cards to all U.S. born citizens. Think it will fly?

NOT trying to go off topic or anything - but what do folks think about the Special Prosecutor’s decision not to take the case to the grand jury? Anyone think an arrest is imminent?

Oh and has anyone seen Z’s website yet?

LOL—excellent idea! I even believe Boehner, Canter, and McConnel, et al., will go for it. After all, they were all for motor-voter initiatives, right?

I think there will be an arrest in the very near future, and I believe the charge will be manslaughter.

I agree. I believe he will be arrested and tried for manslaughter.

Here’s where we need Cartera: In a case like this, would they offer a plea, or are they more or less stuck going to trial?

Here’s a story about what manslaughter means in Florida law:

[George Zimmerman: Manslaughter: What constitutes the charge George Zimmerman may be facing in Trayvon Martin shooting? - Orlando Sentinel](http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012-03-31/news/os-trayvon-martin-manslaughter-20120331_1_manslaughter-longwood-lawyer-criminal-defense-lawyer)

If there is to be a charge, that sounds like the right charge. I don’t think anyone is alleging Zimmerman set out with the intention of killing Trayvon Martin.

[Eric Holder Ballot Trickery Proves Ease of Voting Fraud - Yahoo! News](http://news.yahoo.com/eric-holder-ballot-trickery-proves-ease-voting-fraud-215100461.html)

You think there’s no voter fraud?

patsmom, I saw the tape, but in the tape I saw the worker at the poll used the phrase “special ballot”. So yes, he handed him the (special) ballot and he said the other worker would take care of it.

A special ballot in the District, where this occurred, is a ballot that allows the voter to vote, but the ballot is subject to after-the-fact special review of signature, etc. to verify that the voter was legally allowed to vote. A voter may vote on voting day, but their vote may subsequently be disallowed, just as absentee ballot may be mailed but subsequently disallowed if they don’t quality due to signature, postmark date, etc.

When my husband was a young attorney he had to do “on-call” duty on voting day for when issues arose. No one is ever allowed to vote after election day, so the gov’t generally allows disputed ballots to be cast, puts them aside, and reviews them for acceptability after the election.

If you want an example of when manslaughter gets tossed on justifiable homicide grounds in Florida google “greyston garcia.” He saw a guy messing around his car. The guy ran. Garcia chased him a couple of blocks. The guy was carrying a bag that weighed 4 pounds (it contained stolen radios). When Greyston caught up with him, the guy swung the bag. G stabbed him in the chest, killing him. Garcia picked up the bag, went home, hid the knife, didn’t call the cops that night, sold two of the other radios and lied to the police for a while.

The judge at a preliminary hearing threw out the charges under SYG.

Here is one to get the Race Card going. Google “Trevor Dooley David Jones.” The Fla. judge (as of yesterday) had a motion to dismiss charges against 70 yo Dooley (black) under advisement.

The court is determining whether SYG applies since there was testimony that the 40 yo white Iraq vet dad (whose 8 yo got to witness this) had approached Dooley and got into a shoving match that knocked the 70 yo to the ground (the 8 yo old said her dad was on top of the 70 yo holding him down to get an answer to dad’s question).

What was dad’s question? He wanted to know what sign at the basketball court where he and his daughter were shooting hoops stated “no skateboards allowed.” Seems Dooley lived across the street from the court and came out yelling at a skateboarder to get off the court. James took exception to this and countered with his question. Seems Dooley was packing and apparently James saw this and still approached him as Dooley headed back to his house.

The gun went off in the struggle.

“I’m not seeing much intelligence from some posters.”

Goodbye.

scansmom~saw the website, seems Z believes an arrest is imminent

so my take is here in Florida we are making it harder for citizens to vote, but easier for them to kill…time for me to relocate

I looked at the website - what is with the American flag background?

myturnnow, what makes you think that Z believes an arrest is coming? His request is for funds to cover living expenses, not only legal fees.

I’m not a lawyer, but manslaughter seems about right to me. Doesn’t murder in any degree mean a deliberate killing of a particular person?

NYMomof2–not sure that deliberate iintent to kill is required in all states for all degrees, but you at least have to intend an act that has a known high degree of risk of death or very serious injury to the person.

And now we are having cop car-slaughter.

[Trayvon Martin case: Empty police car shot upin neighborhood where teen was killed - NY Daily News](<a href=“National News - New York Daily News”>Trayvon Martin case: Empty police car shot up in neighborhood where teen was killed )

Just heard that Zimmerman’s attorney has resigned as his counsel. What’s that mean, and what’s going on? Anyone know?

Maybe his attorney was as appalled by his fundraising website as I am.

Ok. Not really. But I am appalled by it. It just seems so unseemly to me.

Here’s the official story:

I’m not an attorney, but having a client call Sean Hannity but not his legal counsel has got to hurt.

Attorneys said that Z had not returned their calls and had made contact with the Special Prosecutor.

[Trayvon Martin George Zimmerman press conference: Attorney announces press conference, Zimmerman may speak - baltimoresun.com](<a href=“Latest News - Baltimore Sun”>http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/os-trayvon-martin-zimmerman-press-conference-20120410,0,6584708.story)

This case is turning into high (or low) theather. If you name is on everyone’s lips, cash in. It is the natural progression from the Nancy Grace shock law/crime as entertainment.

Its like letting people vote for their favorite TV contestant. You think I’m innocent or I fit your political beliefs–vote for me with donations.

I have to admit that in highly charged cases, it actually may result in the defense being a financial match for the state.

If the above story is the case, the attorneys effectively “fired” Z as their client because he’s shown a great disinclination to follow their legal advice…including checking in with them before making calls to the press. There may have also been serious disputes/disagreements between them and judging by the fundraising website…ability to continue paying their fees.

Now they’re saying Zimmerman has fled the state of Florida. Total police incompetence that he’s not sitting in jail right now awaiting trial.

I feel so sorry for him that he can’t go to 7/11 - neither can Trayvon.

Also, his new Web site prominently features a picture of the “Long Live Zimmerman” vandalism to Ohio State University’s black cultural center. http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/04/09/461201/breaking-george-zimmerman-launches-website-features-vandalized-black-cultural-center/</a></p>
