New development

It used to be that my school configured class rank by considering both grade in the class and amount of courses taken. This obviously allowed people who took say, summer school, to get higher class ranks than others.
Due to the fact that I studied abroad in Spain my Sophomore year, I was missing half a year of credits. Therefore, with a ~3.9ish GPA I was ranked 163.
For some reason the school has changed it so that summer school no longer factors in. Therefore, my rank jumped to 83 (I’m now ranked in the top 15% instead of the top 30%).

As an EA Applicant, would this sway my admissions decision one way or the other? I did write a special circumstances note to the admissions office explaining my class rank issue, but I’m afraid they’ll penalize me anyway. Should I contact the office of admissions about it?

They probably won’t penalize you, and since you already explained it to them, I wouldn’t bug them about it again.
My school doesn’t even rank, so I don’t think “rank” matters as much as people think it does.

i doubt they would penalize you… class rank really isnt important since its a reflect of the information they have about you and your school already. if there is a discrepancy, they wont penalize you
my school doesnt rank either, like @sunshine

How big is your class? tbh I would not update them about it. If you had moved into the top 10% it would’ve helped probably, but I think it’s better for you to leave the possibility that your class rank could have been very high (top 10% minimum) without the disadvantage rather than inform them that you were still “only” top 15% which is low by CC/HYP standards.
