New England/Mid Atlantic Colleges

I want to study biochemistry and premed. 95 unweighted GPA, many honors and APs, many extracurriculars & work… 1240 SAT score, but I only took it once and I know what I need to study for next time. 750 on world history subject test and planning to take chemistry SAT 2 this year. I want a school with a lot of school spirit and big athletics.

Literally the only schools I can really know I like 100% are Lehigh and Villanova. I am a New York state student and like Stony Brook & Binghamton.

Can anyone suggest any other schools that may be a good fit for me?

Case Western Reserve University (CWRU, “Crew”) in Cleveland, great STEM school, med school, research hospital immediately, immediately adjacent to campus. Midsize national university like some others you like. You seem like a good candidate. It does seem to emphasize test scores and is competitive, so you might want to get your very good score higher. It gives pretty generous merit aid. It does not have big athletics though.

University of Pittsburgh seems like another good option. Excellent. Urban. A little bigger. Does have big-time sports. Wake Forest is another one. New Wake Downtown research facility, ACC sports, also mid-size.

Good luck!

Penn State

@TTG Agree with Wake CWRU and Pitt

Pitt as a match CW and Wake as a reaches with current profile.

Op. Higher SAT as you plan will open up other options. For schools with excellent programs in your area of interest, if you get in the 1400-1500 plus category you could look at some schools in Boston like Tufts & BC and the other NESCAC liberal arts colleges around New England.

All as reaches but definately worth considering.

If you were not super concerned with traditional al campuses like Villanova and Lehigh you could also look at GW BU and NYU. All have solid science programs.

Any financial constraints?

Yes, financial aid will be a big deciding factor for where I go ultimately.

Do you require significant merit aid or you have a specific efc number you need to acheive make it work for your situation?

Depending on this we can give better guidance.

I’m not totally sure what my EFC will be… I just know that I need to get the college to cost similarly to a SUNY school (roughly 16k) to make it worthwhile

You might explore Miami of Ohio. If you could get your SAT score up some, you’d be eligible for some good merit aid. It’s an excellent school with a beautiful campus. Here’s a convenient chart,
