New Fresh. Willing to Answer Questions

Im just starting my second semester in the honors program. I ended with a 3.96, got on SGA, and joined a fraternity as well as getting into the Freshmen Honor Society. I also live in Riverside but I know about almost all the housing around here.

Any questions, shoot away

is hazing an issue for frat pledging?

Answered in a message.

How many students in each honors class? How many honors classes did u take the last term?

What type of stats did you have to get in the honors program?

Which is the better dorm - Riverside or Lakeside?

riverside. A whole lot quieter with the honors students and a lot less focus by the university (aka, less people getting into trouble)

Both honors clases I took both had an extremely small number of students, about 13-15 total. I just got in the honors program through my SAT, I forget the score, I just know I scored 20 points higher than the required number.

Were the honors classes more difficult than your other classes? How many honors classes may one take each semester? How many classes did you take your first semester? Are you from a public school or private?

how is the campus, I live in NY and i got in just haven’t been able to get a good look at it so could you tell me maybe a little about it both good and bad things ?

I have visited on only one occasion. The campus is beautiful, modern, very clean and well maintained. The students appeared to be attractive,clean-cut and full of life. Approx. 12% of the students are in the Honors College (3 programs and a new Fellows program).

The Computer Based Honors Program is very highly regarded; the students avg. SAT for CBHP is slightly above 1470 on a 1600 scale. The Int’l Honors Program includes study abroad world-wide,including Cuba.

The University Wide Honors Program is one of the best run programs in the U.S. Alabama’s coffers are overflowing and much of these resources are used to attract and educate top, motivated students from alabama and from the rest of the U.S. Extremely welcoming of O-O-S students.

The honors dorms are all suite type-singles,students share a full bath with only one other person. There are also similiar new dorms for non-honors students, all of which include a kitchen and dining area in each suite of either two or four singles. The gym is amazing, suggesting an up-scale country club atmosphere.

i hear all this talk about honors dorm’s, what if your not honors?

There are several new dorms at Alabama. I am not qualified to answer your question as I am a parent of an acceptee and have only visited this wonderful and welcoming campus once.

Lakeside is and Ridgecrest will be for all students, not just honors students (they are carbon copies of Riverside).

Right, and Ridgecrest is only open to freshmen.

The Computer Based Honors Program is very highly regarded; the students avg. SAT for CBHP is slightly above 1470 on a 1600 scale. The Int’l Honors Program includes study abroad world-wide,including Cuba.

Wait, so if you’re in the Honors program at 'Bama, you can go to Cuba for study abroad?

Thats really cool, I’ve always waited to go, but couldn’t, but now I might.

What are the professors like that teach Honors courses? What percent are PhDs and have national and/or international reputations? How many classes,if any, are taught by graduate students?
Are there concerns about possible budget cuts for these elite programs due to the horrible economy, and if there are, what type of cuts would there be?
May I ask where else the OP was accepted and what factors other than financial helped you decide to enroll at Alabama?
Thanks
