basically i’ve read several posts on here for the past few months and was wondering if you could tell me what my chances are for getting into usc?

ec: was a member in a few clubs (math club, medical club, spanish club, deca)…this is by far my weakest point…i had to work 30-40 hrs a week ever since i was a sophomore…not much time for anything else…did about 100 hours of community service at local library…
essay & recs were decent…nothing amazing

so far i have gotten into georgia tech, university of miami, and slu…

Good chances. Not a lock, but I’d say it’s likely. I have similar stats. The fact that you had a job will probably help your chances. I think colleges really respect a high school student who works 30-40 hours a week.

The message we heard over and over at sessions with admissions officers from a wide range of colleges is that high school students who work at real jobs are not penalized for a lack of ec’s that kids who don’t work have more time for. I’m not good at chancing applicants, but I hope you will stop thinking of your ec’s as a weak point and start thinking about your responsibility, work ethic, maturity in taking up a burden most kids don’t have to deal with, and your experience in the real world with a real job as strong points. Congrats on the acceptances you’re received so far, and good luck with USC!

Working is also an EC. My daughter did work but not nearly that many hours as you and she got in. Your GPA is good. I’m not familiar with ACT scores. But I think you have good chances.
