According to the KHOU Channel 11 news in Houston,

“8,900 students applied for about 730 slots; 75 percent were rejected, and 1,100 were put on a wait list.”

The 1,100 on the wait list, as far as I know, seems like a new statistic.

Here’s the article, which talks about the record number of college rejection letters this year: http://www.khou.com/topstories/stories/khou070412_ac_collegerejections.18353d2.html

Things aren’t looking up for we waitlisters.
