Got it as a gift. Decided not to buy the case at the Apple Store, thinking first I’d look online as the Logitech being sold at the Apple Store had not so good reviews. But the online pickin’s are slim and reviews are for older models. Anyone out there have the new pro (we got the 10.5") and if so, what case? I previously had a case with backlit keyboard, but it broke several times and I finally gave up using the keyboard and deferred to the on-screen keyboard. Am open to all suggestions. I may have to wait but I was hoping to take it on an upcoming trip but don’t want to take it without a case.
No suggestions but I’m jealous of your gift.
my old iPad was a dinosaur and DH was insistent. Who am I to argue? He is thinking the kids can order the case as their contribution to the birthday present, but he wants some guidance as to what I want. Someone please help. I may just order an inexpensive cover as temporary stopgap if need be.
Look around on Amazon and read the reviews. That’s the best way to choose a case. It depends what you like. Before I used a keyboard, I liked the thinner cases that basically just covered the front. However, beware of the really inexpensive ones. Again- read the reviews. I just had a keyboard case break at the hinges for no reason. Amazon refunded my money overnight (Friday night)= even though I had the case for 3 months. I chose another keyboard case Saturday morning and it arrived at 8:30 last night.
The issue with the reviews is that most are clearly NOT for the new case. The pro just came out a few weeks ago and many of the reviews are older than that, so clearly not for this model. Already read the reviews, which is why I am asking here for anyone who has had real experience. I had a Zagg with my previous iPad and it was meh.
I’m planning to buy one. I hope they make a Speck case that fits it. I LOVE my iPad Air Speck case…everything about it.
I am getting the same one, was prepared to buy the Apple keyboard as the 9" iPad case had such great reviews, but people are panning the Apple and the Logitech 10.5" case on the Apple website. I don’t know what to do, but may just get a case to protect it until the keyboard becomes a good option
Which case are you getting as a stopgap?
Does the new iPad Pro fit in an existing iPad Pro case?
Unfortunately not. The old ones were, I believe 9.7 inches. The new ones are 10.5 and 12.9 inch. If the old cases worked, we wouldn’t be having this conversation
I have a carry case from an old acer aspire tiny laptop that I used to travel with eons ago. The case can work temporarily but it’s only a carry case.
Don’t know if it is even on your radar, but I would not buy a Brydge based on my experience with the keyboard cover they recently released for the Surface.
Update:
After reading lots of reviews, facing the fact that there are few cases currently available, especially ones that have the features I want (the backlit keyboard) and the smart connect, that connects magnetically to the ipad and uses the ipad’s power (no bluetooth syncing and no separate charging of the keypad) is really cool on the logitech, so that’s what I got. They were already going out of stock in the apple stores around here, so we went ahead and got it. So far I am pleased, though it and the ipad take a little getting used to. Fun features on the ipad. especially the split screen.
Well, its awkward for tying to prop up and use it in bed. Old case had a slot for the ipad to sit in the keyboard part. This one has a thing in the back to pull out which isn’t handy for using it in ones lap.
@jym626 are you using your iPad pro in place of a laptop? I’m about due to update my iPad and thought about the pro but I already have a MacBook Air that I use and is still good. If you are, does it really replace a Laptop or are there things better done on the laptop (or desktop).
No, not using it as a laptop replacement.
**ETA- i am traveling soon and may take the ipad instead of the laptop. Last time I did that it was a mistake, but I am probably going to do that this trip.
I don’t feel the iPad is a good laptop replacement due to storage (on laptop) of data, document editing, etc. Yes, you can buy programs to let you do that, but to me it isn’t the same. That said, I get by pretty well on short business trips with just the iPad. I am able to see redlined documents in a program called Docusign.
Definitely no way an iPad replaces a laptop. I have a MacBook Pro and an iPad Air 2. I’ll carry the iPad for 1- or 2-day business trips when I know I don’t have much “real” work to do, but for longer trips I bring the laptop.
The issue for me is needing to work with multiple windows at once, including dragging/dropping and copy-paste. Also searching for particular files, working with applications on the laptop, etc. More sophisticated email and calendering tasks are also easier on the laptop (or just not possible on the iPad). There’s a myriad of things you can’t do, or at least can’t do easily, on the iPad.
Although I should add it depends on what you need to do for work. I’m sure some people can get by just fine with an iPad as a laptop replacement. For me personally, no way.
I plan to use the ipad for things like being out of the office for the afternoon, where these old eyes just aren’t comfortable quoting numbers on my phone, I ought to be able to “keep the wheels on” the business stuff for an afternoon or during travel, but still plan to have my laptop, too.
Give us a case review in a week or two Jym
@anomander - the new ipad pro has a split screen option. I can have cc open on the main screen and my emails on the right side. And you can scroll through other apps/windows on that right side thing. Kinda fun! When the new ios11 comes out in the fall, it will allow the cut/past/dragging, etc. Watch the ipad pro video for a sneak peek. I still wouldn’t consider the ipad a replacement for a computer, but the new features are cool and the screen picture is incredible sharp.
I am glad I had DH buy the case yesterday, as every apple store in the area now shows no availability, with the next shipment due in July 31.Lucked out on that one… I think.
