TRENTON, N.J. (AP) Two state troopers charged Friday with records-tampering turned a state highway into a “virtual speedway” when they gave a caravan of luxury cars a high-speed escort, taping over their own license plates to conceal their involvement, the attorney general said.

Administrative charges also were brought against four other members of the state police in connection with a high-speed escort in 2010, and a fifth trooper for his handling of a ticket issued to the driver of a Lamborghini clocked at 116 mph, also in 2010.

Sgt. 1st Class Nadir Nassry and Trooper Joseph Ventrella sought to conceal their involvement in the March escort, which reached speeds exceeding 100 mph, by using black electrical tape to alter their plates, the attorney general said.

There is, however, more scandals lurking behind this rather trivial story of donut-guzzlers misbehaving:

Though he hasn’t been told the state will try to reduce or eliminate Nassry’s pension, Sciarra said he expects to “have this fight.”

“What my client’s not willing to do is to surrender his career and his pension, which he earned, 26 plus years of service, we’re not going to surrender that simply to accommodate the PR needs of people in Trenton,” Sciarra said.

No big deal so far … until the news surfaced that this pension is in the 3 MILLION dollars range. Ah, the beauty of being a public servant. Perhaps, he can apply to the city of Bell in California. They may look for a new millionaire chief of police or fire department.
