New Living Room furniture

Any opinions? I hope to buy a couch, side chair, coffee table, side table and a new rug this week. I like two different ones.

One is leather, and the other is cloth.

We have a cat?

Opinions?

What kind of cloth? Some cloth seats are magnets for cats.

Our 3 cats ignore our leather Stressless couches. Never even tried to use them as scratch posts. The only scratches happen when the cats quickly take off from the couch if spooked by or interested in something.

It’s actually a woven looking cloth. And I like it. The cloth couch also has all reversible cushions which I also think is a plus.

I didn’t like the side chairs they had, but that can wait.

I find cloth more comfortable to sit on. Had both, prefer cloth. It’s warmer also.

I’d probably go with the leather. With good quality leather, the patina improves with age and scuffs and wear give the leather character rather than just a tatty appearance.

I’m kindof small, feel like I slide around too much on a big leather couch. (Tall hubby likes them.). But… leather likely wears better than our cloth couch.

I have 3 couches in my apartment, velvet, silk and woven. The velvet is combed velvet. It’s very soft. I’ve had the silk one for 40+ years and it still looks like new with a lot of usage. I think I would like leather in a den or study more. What’s important is how comfortable it is. I am a short person, so a wide sofa is not good for me. My ultimate test is if I could lie on it and feel comfortable.

I prefer leather. With pets (a shedding dog) and with ME. My leather sofa is probably 10 years old and looks like new.

I’m sitting on a leather love seat that other than a little color fading from spending years in some direct sun is probably 20 years old and structurally perfect.

You have to choose what your eye and body will like. That is the best choice. I also am not a matchy matchy person and like to mix styles and texture with all pieces of furniture. I also prefer NOT to get it all on one fell swoop because of that!

I am also not a matchy person. My furniture has been collected over time.

Cat ( with only back claws) sits in husband’s lap ,then jumps off. Decent leather furniture.

The couches are both only 37 inches deep…which is perfect for DH and me…neither of us is gigantic.

I’m sort of leaning towards the cloth one because I think it will be better in warmer weather. And I like the idea of being able to turn the cushions!

If I get the cloth one, I might just go and look at the cloth one that matched the leather one at the other furniture place. Or…move some things around in my house!

We will be getting rid of a couple of tables, the current couch and moving a recliner to our lower level.

And the rugs are going too! To be replaced!

I said we have a cloth couch in family room, but really it is more of a velour. The salesperson at Lazy Boy said it would wear well. Alas, rolled arms takes a beating. Before it got too bad I got had towels in same navy color and lay on top of the arms.

Neither couch we are looking at has rolled arms. W have arm covers for our family room couch which was bought in 2004. Cloth (sort of a corduroy). It really is in good shape after all these years.

I wish I could find pictures to send of both options…for the living room. It’s the room I use for reading, etc.

We are going for a more casual LR look.

Here are the choices:

Right out of college, my daughter’s first furniture was from Raymour and Flanigan, very similar to the style you posted. She had the couch and the loveseat.

It was a very pretty light blue, velvet fabric. It wore great! She loved it.

When she moved in with her now husband, they went for a different color and style to merge their lives.

Your link brings up great memories of her single apartments that she loved. She loves her home now but it’s more collaborative and more West Elm than the traditional R&F.

No opinion on leather v cloth, but I wanted to say that everything we bought from Jordan’s more than 20 years ago has held up beautifully, whereas the two things purchased from R&F much more recently have not, at all. In particular, the sectional we bought for our den in 2018 looks terrible (back cushions sagging and collapsing). I wish we still lived in a reasonable delivery distance from Jordan’s.

I prefer the style of the leather - it’s very similar to the style I got for my living room. I got leather chairs recently and the dogs have had their paws on them but they’re relatively unscathed.

Dogs don’t usually scratch….cats do…that’s my concern!

I’m a leather lover so naturally lean that way though I’ll also say that your style is quite nice and timeless.

The cloth may be more “cushy” depending what you like. I have to say TO ME that seems like an ordinary looking cloth couch for the price. It’s fine but not a statement piece - if that’s what you’re going for.

If you’re really concerned about the cats and leather then I think you have to follow that lead. We’ve never had cats so I don’t know how they work.
