New new American Idol thread (2010).

pageturner-
Did you see the costumes? Really bizarre. Black and white, multi layer, metal beads, with thigh high boots and lots of spandex bodystockings - nothing left to the imagination with most of the female stars tonight.

I think I can’t hit the skip button on the DVR fast enough to avoid listening to Pauler prattle on about Simon Cowell. I wonder what second prize would be? An eternity in hell?

It’s a toxic combo of 12 year girls and their grandmothers. I mean, good lord, can you find more of a has-been act that the Chicago Transit Authority?

As old as most of the guests were tonight, anything you could imagine would fall decidedly in the nightmare category I think.

Janet Jackson used to sing, right? I’m not sure what was going on tonight. I hope there was technical difficulty. It truly was a smorgasbord of has been and never will be.

I had heard that Paula would likely be on and was excited to see her. But I actually thought her whole bit was very awkward - like she was reading a comedy script - and not really succeeding. Awkward. She also seemed to me to be quite nervous on stage - was probably a bit uncomfortable being back in the AI studio.

She and Simon do seem to have a genuine friendship.

Well, that and the fact that she’s always three sheets to the wind.

David Cook wasnt on tonight either…hmmm. I thought it was a good finale for a change…but then I’m old… ;)

I still have nightmares about the first one.

The CIA could use that footage to torture GITMO detainees.

All I really want to take away from tonight is this line. So great. The messages on this board were far more entertaining than that two-hour snoozefest. There was not one moment of the show that even approached great. In fact, I think we were most impressed by how well the Pants on the Ground guy could dance. As far as I’m concerned Lee, who seems like a nice-enough although fairly inarticulate guy, can’t really sing.

Pants on the Ground was the only really entertaining thing, though I did think it was nice to have that bunch of previous winners and contestants come out to sing to/about Simon (I didn’t like any of the montages about him or Paula, though she looked good). Lee is boring. This show really needs to try to stop being boring. And I, too, noticed the ridiculous amount of leather.

Bono’s saying “Take me off those pain killers, I think I’m hallucinating that someone is ruining my song!”

It’s our generation that votes the most- I posted a link a while back. If it were dominated by 12 year old girls, Aaron or Tim would have won.

at first, I thought that it was a “Christina Aguilera” problem; couldn’t hear her at all…then I thought it was a lousy “Hall and Oates” (my favs, usually) problem…Chicago has been awful both live and on TV for the last few years…but when I really couldn’t hear (maybe I was lucky based on these posts) janet Jackson, I knew there must have been sound problems…

Favorite performance of the night: Crystal and Alanis Morissette…they were amazing in my opinion.

Well I am neither 12 years old, or a grandmother, nor have any musical background, but I liked Lee. I liked Crystal too. So I was pleased with whatever way the results went. BUT what I didnt like was the other performers. For goodness sakes, these were some of my favorites and watching them on stage was painful. I mean come on… Joe Cocker, Bee Gees, Hall and Oates, McDonald, Chicago… love em… BUT there needs to be a statute of limitations for old rockers…

Chrystal was robbed. This was my first year watching this show. (Something to share with my son before he goes off to college) I liked Cyrstal from the beginning and really wanted her to win.

My husband and I loved the finale. We felt like we were in college 30 years ago playing the vinyls. Chicago, Michael McDonald (Doobies), Bee Gees, Joe Cocker OMG what a night. Poor Janet, was it sound or was it her soft singing? Maybe she could not breathe in her tight spandex. Glad for Lee, both he and Crystal will have opportunity for great career. Lee needs to decide who he wants to be and Crystal just needs to be herself. She was amazing tonight.

I remember when those who were “it” in Hollywood, would have to be in the finale as part of the audience. I haven’t seen those many this year. Except for th Simon montages-which could have been a great 2 hrs of entertainment by the way-, the show was a snoozer. I think Christina Aguilera was the worst, couldn’t understand a word in hers song, and she looked like Evita in spandex. Sad to say that the Bee Gees were by far the best of the night!

I agree with whoever above said that Crystal , like the other runner-ups, will have more freedom to do what she wants with her career than to be constrained by the winner’s contract. Surely she still has a lot she must do as runner up (tour, etc) and have no idea exactly how these contracts are written, but she should have more freedom.

Anyone notice the photos of Simon from the first year or so? He not only looked a little chubbier, but his skin looked very ruddy- alsost as if he had rosacea or a lupus butterfly rash (or had died one on the night before…). He also didnt have that weird flat-top buzz cut.

Idol winners in past years have not been as successful as the runner-ups. It’s almost a winner’s curse. Crystal has much more talent than Lee. She will have an amazing career with or without the Idol win. Let’s see where Lee is in a year. He might follow in the footsteps of Taylor Hicks, Reuben Studdard and other Idol winners that have faded into oblivion. I thought the show last night was terrific. Many performers from my youth were there and it was refreshing not to have two hours of rap music.
