This is my first quarter at the UW and I am so freaked out. Does anybody have any recommendations on how to survive the first quarter? I don’t have any friends on campus so I feel a bit like I am floating about and I am overwhelmed by the vast number of students and my lack of knowledge of places to seclude myself. So far I have found Odegaard library’s study area to be the best place. Not only that but I am a math major and feel like I am going to implode just from those courses. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

awwh… you’ll do just fine.
Make friends with the person sitting next to you, or someone in your quiz section.

The campus will feel alot smaller, quickly. I only transferred in last winter, and I’m always running into someone I know.

Personally, I find odegaard to be the perfect fresh/soph place to hang out…so you may be comfortable there, but I by no means think it’s the quietest. It’s probally the noisiest library I’ve ever been to (speedsolver may disagree though). I like going to the Suzzallo/Allen.

If you want somewhere DEAD quiet, go to the Reading room…it’s up the staircase in the suzzallo…no talking/noises aloud.

Get involved – find a club you like and join – [RSO Directory : Student Activities Office](<a href=“Student Activities | The HUB”>Student Activities | The HUB)

“my lack of knowledge of places to seclude myself”

Are you in the dorms? I think all of the dorms have study rooms – I like going there better than trekking all the way to the library.
