New residential college slated for 2007 open

It will be similar to James Madison and Lyman Briggs, but aimed at pure liberal arts (with Classics, study abroad and a senior thesis, as is now proposed) and be on the older North campus where most liberal arts programs are located. Snyder-Phillips, where it will be located, is one of the older more attractive/traditonal halls (ivy, wood paneling, fireplaces, etc) … This article is in this morning’s Lansing State Journal:

This is an old thread, but…S was not going to apply to MS, because he wanted a smaller school and a more liberal arts education. Now, he likes this on paper. All the information he has is from the web. Does anyone know anything more about this school? Does anyone know if it will require a different application or different entrance requirements? Is there a cap on kids to be enrolled in Fall '07?

While I don’t know the specifics, I know MSU doesn’t require seperate admissions for their other programs like this (Madison/Briggs)…just make sure to apply early and indicate your interest

^I believe that’s correct: there’s not going to be a separate app needed, just check the RCAH box on the general MSU app. As for enrollment cap, the general target is for something like 600 students total, or about half those in Madison or Briggs. Snyder-Phillips are smaller residence halls (than the bigger, modern ones) and the U wants to foster an even more intimate environment than even those fine res colleges. I believe, though, the 1st year of RCAH operation will see a smaller phase-in class leading toward the final total once all 4 classes are admitted – If I’m not mistaken, MSU’s looking to admit 125 students, initially, into the program… but check out the below website:

You might also want to GOOGLE “RCAH” or its full name the “Residential College for Arts & Humanities” where you can stumble upon a news article or some faculty or University position paper regarding the goals for this new program.
