So I went to the “soft opening” of this new restaurant in elm hall today, and it’s pretty cool. It’s a real sit down restaurant with a hostess and waiter, which I find unique. I don’t know any other real restaurant that is owned/operated by UW like it.

I had the fish & chips (actually garlic fries) with honey hibiscus tea for $5, and they gave me a free herb garden with parsley, chives, and basil to grow. The food was REALLY good. They also had a carafe of water for me to refill which was nice. The chef & manager stopped by to ask me how things were going.

(Note: the price I paid was because it’s a “soft opening”…I don’t know the actual prices they will charge, but I’m guessing double, and charge for the drink. Also, I’m sure the herb garden is a promotion pre-opening thing)

Regardless, it was a really nice place to sit down and relax over some food.

Thanks for the review, travelgirl! Is it more of a 2-3 person place or would it be suitable for larger parties of around 8?

The menu seems to be always changing based on what they have for the day, if I understand that right.

Both!

They have some long tables that I saw 8-10 people sitting at, several 4 seater tables, and some 2 seaters.

I wish this placed existed when I lived on campus -_-

Went yesterday and had a fabulous experience! Food was delicious and interesting, service was wonderful. They served spicy watermelon radish slices to every table. Five of us split the poutine, chicken quesadiila, pork belly buns, mac & cheese and had the trifle and mini-pies for dessert. Even with five people we had lots of leftovers, portions were very generous. Table favorites were the garlic tots side that came with the buns and the poutine. Prices were reasonable, most things $5-$7.

Husband had the honey hibiscus tea, son had a basil refresher (can’t remember what it was called) and I had a rosemary lemonade that everyone loved. Lots of unique flavors that adventurous eaters will enjoy.

Good news for students, if you pay with your Husky card there is no tax and they do not accept tips.

Think our kids will be eating there a lot this year!

Thanks for your input, westquartet!
Looks like I’m really going to have to try this place out sometime with some friends this year.

EDIT: Perhaps you and travelgirl are secretly being paid to promote Cultivate
just kidding! :)

haha, I wish speedsolver! Or maybe they could just let my kids eat there for free :)
