New SAT scores vs PSAT scores?

217 and 2290

Papa, We’ve got to be getting close to those 100 data sets. I’m very interested in seeing the stats you manage to come up with.

GD-- yes, just did a count & we probably have a few over 100 right now. I’m swamped with work at the moment & kids this weekend, and can’t get started until perhaps Sunday night. But with the 6/20 release of the June SAT results, since I can’t get started slicing & dicing until Sunday night anyway, I thought I would give it a few more days for, hopefully, a significant amount of new data sets to be posted. Another 10%-20% of data should improve the analysis. Sorry for the delay…PC

if any of u took stat… you cant get stats cuz its not an srs

1350 Psat, 1450 Sat

so papachicken when are you going to make another chart? (or have you)? since my message.

tryingnottocare… either way, even with voluntary bias, with a large enough sample size, it will form a normal distribution which can be analyzed… besides we’re comparing cc kids with cc…

Yeah, I hate myself every time I take these things… 212 2160; but I am upset that I made such stupid math errors. I gridded (by the way, College Board error, “grid” is not a verb) 25 instead of 250 on the PSAT, so I lost 4 points there, and I don’t even know what happened on the SAT, but I got a 720 on the math there… I think I screwed up filling in their idiotic bubbles… I should really work on that… Because it has happened so many times…

2130 vs. 225

212–>2180

OK, here’s a first installment…just the data & means. N=114, but I’ve excluded 2 data sets pending clarification by authors.

Here are the data sorted by PSAT.

207 / 2155 / 84 MEAN

The addition of 54 data sets from the prior summary of N=60 drove the average PSAT & SAT scores down 4 points & 32 points respectively, but the spread increased by 8 SAT points (mean variance @ n=60 was 76, now @ n=114 mean variance is 84.)

Also note the high reported positive variances at the lower end of the PSAT scale. I suspect there is some selective reporting bias here, as although such gains are certainly conceivable, few other more moderate variances are reported for the same PSAT range.

All for now. I’ll continue either late this weekend, or mid week after more data sets are reported. First chore will be to add new data then create a new, crude graph, followed by more detailed stats analysis.

i dont think u want to use the word “variance” to describe the difference…

I am the 189 / 2060 person, I did hand scoriung and my score became a 2080!!! (So now I am 189 / 2080)

219 / 2000

2280 v. 229

I’m still upset about my math…I swear there was only one question which I was unsure about, yet I had like 7 wrong on the math section.

How often are errors found with hand scoring?

191 vs. 2090

This forum is crazy…An average of 2150!!! Wowzers. Some people just improve like crazy… 500 POINTS? I thought my 180 point difference was pretty drastic, but I guess I was wrong.

I’m the 179 / 1990 person… but I improved to 2030 (in one sitting) and 2070 (highest per section).
So I guess 179/2070… improved by 280 points.

BIG DIFFERENCE: 2300 vs 200

approximately 161 vs 213
