New Stingerette-like service for people living off campus?

I got this in an email:

“Beginning July 4, the Stingerette shuttle service will enhance its normal operations in order to provide students living in Home Park and Centennial Place with door-to-door transportation between 6 PM and 6:30 AM. This will be in effect until the start of the fall semester, when an affordable alternative serving the areas close to campus is planned.”

Does anybody know anything more about this alternative? Specifically if it will be going to places other than home park, like the 1016 Lofts? [1016 howell mill rd]?

You should call Parking and Transportation. I haven’t seen any official announcements about a new service, so they’re your best source for the latest info: [GT Parking & Transporation: Home](<a href=“Parking and Transportation – Georgia Tech – Parking and Transportation”>http://www.parking.gatech.edu/)

Yeah, I would call them but I’m kind of in an urgent fix right now involving an apartment lease… whether I get the apartment or not depends a lot on safety, which depends on this service. So it would be very useful to get information about it as soon as possible… and they aren’t open until Monday.

Okay, I called in and asked about this, if anyone’s interested…

According to GT Transportation, they are planning to offer a flat-rate taxi service [about 5 bucks per ride] from GT campus to off-campus housing.

That’s actually an excellent idea. It sounds like the cost is such that it’s not something you’d want to do every day, but is reasonable if you’re on campus after 10 pm once or twice a week.

Did they mention the radius of the service? I doubt you could convince a cab company to accept $5 for a ride to a house outside the perimeter (or the transportation department to subsidize such a ride).
