New Students: Course number 099

If you’re looking on credit charts, you might see a course number “099.” 099 is a designation that is used by the university as generic credit. It doesn’t waive or replace any other class. It’s just credit that is used towards graduation. To get credit for a class (for example, change FREN 099 to FREN 004), you must get departmental approval. Meaning, you would have to see the French Department about getting this changed.

Another example, you cannot place out of UW 20. If you have taken the English AP, you’ll get credit for ENGL 099. Again, that will count towards graduation and is considered elective credit.

It can get confusing. So if you are confused, message me.

Question – Last year I took AP Environmental Science and did pretty well on the test. The credit chart says it counts for 3 hours of EES99. Does that mean that in order to get part of my science GCR fulfilled I need to contact the environmental science department? Or does it still not count for anything but generic credit?

I would be safe and contact your advisor first to see if that will count towards your GCRs. My guess is that it wouldn’t.
