New Studio for Acting?

My son’s first choice was New Studio for MT. Was assigned New Studio for Acting. Anyone have any input about this Studio? I know they say all studios involve some music and dance. Any specifics about this particular studio? Any input about staff or anything at all would be appreciated.

Hey there! I’m currently a freshman in New Studio for Acting (NSA). I didn’t know that people who auditioned MT would be placed in the Acting track. I don’t believe anyone in the Acting part of NSB auditioned for MT.

Anyway, as far as involvement with music and dance goes, there’s not all that much. The NSM (New Studio MT) singing teacher, Michael McElroy, is currently teaching our voice class a song, and Byron Easley taught us a dance class during one of our Physical Acting classes. But, besides that, there’s not really any other in-studio dance or music work for NSA students. However, several of my NSA friends are taking private voice lessons, which is a 2 credit elective through Steinhardt.

Of course, the curriculum is liable to change for next years’ freshmen, seeing as how the New Studio is still a very new studio. There’s a whole bunch more about NSA to talk about, so if you have any more specific questions, I’m more than happy to answer!

Pemesteau, Wow. It’s really kind of hard to figure this one out. Your son so talented in MT that they didn’t want to release him to go to another acting studio? Too tough a competitive field–in this crazy competitive year!–to approve him for MT? Who knows what the gods of audition & admission were thinking. All I can say is, congratulations! There is no doubt the best of the MT actors are watching the very talented and selective straight acting students in New Studio. (I know my son is, with admiration.) There are approximately 30 Plus kids, give or take. Like our illustrious Operationgold 7, a pretty unique bunch of actors.

NYU in acting, but not MT. (At least for the first 2 years.) Northwestern, a superb university with the promise of a great MT program. But no guarantee. Geez, your son has both an enviable and frustrating situation in hand. Still, he really cannot go wrong either way.

Please let us know how it goes for him. And feel free to PM me if he has further questions about NYU.

Best of Luck!

Operationgold7, Yes! My son is a great admirer of you and your esteemed fellow actors. Hang in and be aware that you are more noticed and respected by your peers than you will ever know. (He speaks of the talent of the NSA kids a lot!) You are all trail blazers! Can’t wait to see you perform after the freshman year rule. Very exciting!
