<p>"TALLAHASSEE, Florida - Most Florida residents would be allowed to take guns to work under a measure passed by Florida lawmakers on Wednesday.</p>
<p>The bill, allowing workers to keep guns in their cars for self-protection, was approved by the Florida Senate by a vote of 26-13. It now goes to Republican Gov. Charlie Crist to sign into law.</p>
<p>Backed by the National Rifle Association and some labor unions, the so-called “take-your-guns-to-work” measure would prohibit business owners from banning guns kept locked in motor vehicles on their private property…</p>
<p>The measure applies to employees, customers and those invited to the business establishment as long as they have a permit to carry the weapon…</p>
<p>Nothing stupid about this at all. The only people actually taking guns to work will know how to use them. You think some chap is going to go to the local gun store and pick up a gun JUST because he can now bring it to work? Hell it’s not even coming out of the car? It’s locked in the car at that. Some of you need to quit hating on the Constitution.</p>

<p>Having a gun so handy just outside of the office will be exactly what some person with a short temper needs to demonstrate their rage after they get laid off or chewed out by their boss. Enough people in this country have been going postal. With the recession, even more will be headed in that direction. They don’t need the help of having a gun a few steps away.</p>
<p>Oh yes, I’ll await the news of masses in Florida going postal after they are laid off in the Bush recession. Please post those stories here when they happen.</p>
<p>It’s unfortunate because so many people in the past have been on the verge of shooting up their office building but, on the 30 minute drive home to get their gun (which they couldn’t keep in their car!), have cooled down enough to decide “screw it” and hit the job search hard the next morning! I’m sure those people who fall in the “would have shot my office building up but didn’t have anything on me so decided not to” crowd will skyrocket. You know, those are the type of people who usually “think it through” after a little bit and decide not to do anything. They’re rational like that :rolleyes:</p>

<p>I don’t know, I think people that need to walk around with guns on them and in the offices and cars don’t much trust America too much nor its laws</p>
<p>All this bill does is allow law abiding citizens to leave their legally obtained firearms in there car. The bad guys were already bringing their weapons to work, but now the good guys will be able to fight back.</p>
<p>These guns aren’t @ work, they are in their cars. As long as criminals can get their hands on guns I’d like to be able to keep one as well. This “babying” of Americans that you’re trying to pull is BS…I’d prefer that criminals aren’t the only ones walking around with guns.</p>
<p>I know good guys who already have taken their guns to work and left it locked up in their car. You probably do as well, you just don’t know it. </p>
<p>They’re not always taking them to work on the off chance they’ll get fired so they can shoot up the place (well, none of them I’ve known have). They have taken them because they were going to go target shooting at lunch or right after work, they own a side business where they’ll need to stop and pick up cash receipts to carry to the bank after dark, or they just want to have access to some protection for various reasons.</p>
<p>I love how you guys think that a person could be crazy enough to walk into their office with a gun, but that person would ONLY put it in their car in the first place if the law said it was ok.</p>
<p>Here’s a newsflash: people who ignore murder laws aren’t anal about obeying firearm attainment and possession laws…</p>
<p>I like the “blood in the streets” predictions…the same kind of things people said about Florida passing concealed carry laws. Guess what, the people who go through the legal process of carrying firearms are some of the safest people in society. They have a 0.2% crime rate, and a 0.001% violent crime rate with firearms–yes, statistically more law-abiding than police officers!</p>
<p>What does this law do? It allows people to leave their legally posessed firearms in their cars. How do you think this will increase crime?</p>
Mini, do you even know the law about things like this? Grenade launchers are an “any other weapon” which is a category restricted by the National Firearms Act of 1934. Explosive projectiles are “destructive devices” and limited even more.</p>
