New Supplement Essay Idea (Not controversial)

i scrapped the other idea I had for obvious reasons. if you want to know what I’m talking about find my other thread but it doesnt really matter.

here it goes: My Conversation With A Jehovah Witness

its funny to type it out. i think it can end up being a quirky essay that shows my passions. its amazing how that can come out of the topic.

i was half kidding when i said it wasn’t controversial…i think its like 99% not but I can see it being lol. before you think “what can this essay possibly show?” let me answer:

I love debating. want to be a lawyer. basically, for an hour i invited a jehovah witness who knocked on my door inside for coffee and of course a debate. the essay will expand on what we talked and debated about (not even about religion - mainly world issues, politics, and persecution) basically, the main point is that I enjoy listening to different opinions on issues (mirroring a diverse college environment) and how I embrace diversity. I honestly found our conversation very intellectually stimulating even though we had very opposing view points.

excuse me for my poor organization of ideas because I’m actually really excited about this topic - this could really make me stand out (in a good light).

oh yeah and my question was is this too controversial? lol. i think the essay might actually come out off-beat funny.

I think it sounds pretty interesting. Just be careful not to be disparaging or disrespectful towards Jehovah’s Witnesses. If you can write a funny, engaging, and honest essay without coming off as intolerant then you’re golden. It’s one of the most original ideas I’ve heard.

Good idea. Make sure you don’t come across as close-minded or that you think your values are superior. Perhaps you could avoid this by mentioning that the person made you reconsider your own beliefs at the end of the essay?

well, we actually did agree on some things. thats what i was going to mention in the end (like I never believed i’d have something in common with a Jehovah witness…lol)

I think it’s an excellent idea. Like the others have said, try not to come off as close-minded and be careful not to force the funny (humor can be tough to write sometimes).

Wow, a Jehovah’s Witness who actually agreed to an intellectual discussion instead of force feeding his/her religion on uninterested civilians?!?!

Just kidding.

I think it’s a really interesting topic.

This is a great idea. A well-written creative essay > SHOW WHO YOU REALLY ARE!! quirky essays that are in all of those “100 Great College Essays” books.
