new theory on cause of autism...mixed feelings on this

I think allergies have changed. I know my D3 used to eat peanuts, tree nuts, etc., and had no problems until she was about 7. Then one by one foods started to bother her, some severely. She has learned to be very careful.

I remember being in elementary school and hearing about allergies to chocolate, strawberries, and shellfish. The rare child who was allergic to chocolate would get to choose a different flavor cupcake! It seems that there are more foods and substances today that people are allergic to. It may be that the “hygiene theory” has some merit but good cultural hygiene (clean water, drains, etc.) saves far more lives than anything else.

There is also a correlation between infant/toddler eczema and the later development of food allergies. I remember seeing that there is a drug you can give your baby who has eczema to help prevent future food allergies. Would I have done that with D3 if it had been available then? Probably not. I would be too afraid of giving regular pharmaceuticals to such a young baby. If I asked her today, D3 would vote for getting that drug!
