Yesterday we held the first service for sunriseeast. We had a nice gathering of friends at home. Our dear friend D. played the violin. G., a friend who is a cantor, sang Jewish prayers and read appropriate passages of scripture. I and my kids said the Kaddish - a Jewish prayer of mourning.

We plan to have two more gathering in the coming days. But an hour ago I got a phone call to get ready for a possible lung transplant today. So, how the rest of the week will unfold is anybody’s guess.
We will keep you all posted.

** A Note From Moderators: At this moment, I will break off this and the following posts, to begin a new thread. Please bear with me for a few moments while I do the technicals, to relocate and preserve everyone’s posts from here on. Thanks.**

Coldad…so happy for your chance at new lungs…i know we will all be thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers. Thank you for keeping us updated…and deciding on a charity that can help others achieve what sunriseeast already had…although what she gave through her posts has no price…but we are all the better for having known her in our online lives. The donation page was easy…
Now go get your new lungs!

This thread is a such a testament of the miracle of life. After such sadness for Sunrise, I now feel such hope and happiness for Coldad.

Sounds like Sunrise got right to work watching out for her family from above. :)

bentshaftpaddle - thank you.

coldad-how overwhelming all must feel right now but can’t help but see the potential new lungs as a gift and a metaphor for coming in to a new chapter of life for you. warm wishes for you as you transition and enter the next phase of your journey. there is no doubt sunrise will accompany you from her parallel universe.

bentshaftpaddle, thank you for that lovely post. My condolences to you during this time.

Coldad, you and your sons continue to be in my thoughts and prayers and now I send extra positive energy your way as you prepare for the transplant. May it be a routine surgery followed by a speedy recovery.

Coldad,
I will be saying Mi Sheibeirach for you as you determine your next steps. We will be here to support you and your sons on your journey to good health. I will also keep the donor’s family in my thoughts and prayers. Please let your sons know they can come here for support.

bentshaftpaddle, thank you for your kind tribute. My online friends hold me up in ways noone can imagine, and I hope we were able to do that in some small way for sunrise.

I actually said “Kaddish” for SR at Sat. morning services last week. I don’t always go, but they had a special program there, so it was fitting that I say a prayer for her & her family while I was there.

My mom always believed that when one door closes, another one opens…I agree that SR is looking down upon you right now by paving the way for you to have a lung transplant, so you can be strong for your boys and around for them for a long time to come.

Best of luck, our prayers are with you now…and we hope for the best possible outcome.

coldad, I, too, am praying that this possibility of a transplant comes to fruition.

abasket, I agree! :)

Coldad - I’m overwhelmed at the timing and blessing of news of your transplant. I don’t normally donate if I’m not anonymous - but wanted you to know I just donated to your charity. What a wonderful testament to your family.

I will be praying for you as you take these next steps. I’m sure it must be overwhelming and scary - we’re here if you need to talk.

Coldad, thank you for your posts. You are in my prayers.

bentshaftpaddle, your post was very uplifting. I am pleased to think that cc may have offered sunrise even a portion of what she gave us.

Dear Coldad- Thank you for the name of a charity that we can contribute to. I want to wish you good luck should the transplant come through. My husband’s friend (60 years old) had a double lung transplant last summer and returned to work this week, though he worked from home sooner. He is doing great, and looks and feels wonderful. Before the transplant, he was unable to walk five steps without sitting down. All the oxygen tanks and other stuff has been taken away, and he is now able to move in ways that many of us take for granted. Please let your sons know that Sunrise’s friends want to be there for them, as we would be honored to be there for you should you feel like keeping us updated. I am going online now to make a contribution. Wishing you peace, strength and courage over the coming weeks. Sunrise continues to be in my thoughts, as does you and your family and community.

Dear Coldad, Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Wishing you a quick return to full health soon

Coldad - Saying a silent m’shebeirach for you here as well. Tears in my eyes as I read about your transplant opportunity. I can just imagine SR’s delight in you having this second chance of life. We are here for you as we were for your wonderful wife.

Coldad–I got shivers of excitement at your good news. Praying for a successful transplant operation and a complete and speedy recovery.

Bentshaftpaddle–thank you so much for sharing.

Coldad, my very best wishes to you for a speedy, uneventful, and complete recovery from your impending surgery. I will be making a donation to the charity you mentioned, and will be thinking of you and your sons as well when I do so.

Coldad- blessings as you celebrate sunrise’s life. Thank you for the information about where to donate in her honor.

Hoping that an opportunity for a transplant is yours soon. Best to your family and friends.
