New to CC, curious to know if i stand out!

Hey there College Confidential members!

I am currently a junior at a private school in Georgia, just about an hour south of Atlanta. I am going to begin applying to colleges this summer/fall, and would like to know if the fact that I am a southern female and want to major in biomedical engineering helps me stand out among the floods of people that will be applying to the schools that i want to attend.

Here’s some info about me:

I have a 3.8 GPA, and have taken three AP’s so far, and am signed up to take 4 next year.

My EC’s include: a lifetime of work in local animals shelters/rescues
a non-paid internship at a veterinary hospital(4 days a week for 2 hours)
four years of being in drama/being a thespian (soon to be five years)
three years of being in chorus (soon to be four years)
an afterschool TA for the Chinese teacher

I haven’t gotten in my SAT scores yet, but i will update this post once i do.

I hope to major in biomedical engineering and minor in spanish.

I will be applying to: Emory, GSU, Duke, University of Chicago, Columbia and Princeton.

Feedback is appreciated :)) Good luck with your acceptances!!!

Definitely need more info (esp. with your SAT scores) to give you chances. It does help that you’re a female and you want to go into engineering though.

Your ECs are pretty strong, but nothing jaw-dropping. That said, you don’t need jaw-dropping ECs to get admitted into college; you just need to show your passion through your essays.

Also, do you have any leadership positions in your activities?

Not really, most of the things that i do dont have a leadership role available  once i am a senior i will probably be president of drama and have some kind of role in my chorus’ government. I also banded with a senior this year to start a club that involves fundraising for animal welfare.

Ive taken a rather challenging course load, and havent taken any free blocks. Next year i will be taking 9 classes (one will be an independent study)

Any recommendations on how to have more “jaw-dropping” ECs?
