<p>I am new to college confidential and slightly overwhelmed. Was told this is a great forum to get info and ask questions while in the college hunting process… What suggestions do you have for getting started? So you know where we are in the process: my child is an incoming high school senior, pursuing musical theatre. Just beginning the application process. All advice welcome!</p>
<p>Anything specific school that you are looking for? Perhaps they have a thread.</p>
<p>Also, always look into Instate schools, they offer much cheaper tuition then being out of state.</p>

<p>A couple of suggestions for getting started - </p>
<ul>
<li><p>Read the thread titles in the ‘Parents Forum’ section to find topics that might be of interest to you.</p></li>
<li><p>Do the same on the particular college’s section (if there is one) for the colleges your kid might be interested in.</p></li>
<li><p>If you have particular college related questions go ahead an post it in the Parents Forum.</p></li>
<li><p>If you’re interested in random topics not related to college or have questions/thoughts in that category, post it in the Parent Cafe section.</p></li>
<li><p>If you want to see how nasty people who are otherwise reasonable can get you can venture into the Parents Cafe - Election and Politics area.</p></li>

<p>Welcome MTMama. College Confidential has many parts to the site, as well as many different discussion forums. Right now, you are on the Parent Cafe Forum which is mostly for “off topic” (not college stuff) discussions. </p>

The MT Forum is the BEST resource you can find anywhere right now on the very specialized topic of MT college admissions. Every topic under the sun is covered there that you need to know. It could take you many days to read through the many threads there, but I suggest you do that as a starting point as you will learn a great deal and then ask specific questions there. Also, at the top of the MT Forum, are about 40 separate forums for a variety of specific MT college programs and so click on those links for the schools that your child is interested in. Lots of information there that you cannot find in a book or elsewhere online. Some of it is personal experiences that are valuable. </p>
