I’m a rising senior and I need help coming up with a list of colleges that would fit me. I would like to get my list together asap so I’ll be able to apply to schools early action.

A little about me:

SATS: 1500
Extracurriculars:
-SSL Club
-Key Club
-Poms team (sophomore year)
-Cheerleading team (junior year)
-Cheerleading team and Cheerleading captain (senior year)
-Dance for Preforming Arts Center(junior year)
-Competitive Allstar Cheerleading team (senior year)

Probable major: Architecture and Interior Design

Location: Maryland
Also I go to a difficult public school and would love to go to a college in the city.

Thank you for your time and input.

Hm…Here’s some honest advice. From your stats and ECs I would say the main strength of your application lies in your dedication to cheer. I would look mostly in-state and possibly private out of state. I don’t think your stats are good enough for competitive out-of-state admission, however there are schools (like extension campuses of out-of-state public schools) that are less competitive. Private schools don’t care where you’re from but tend to be harder to get into in general (they’re smaller). So I would draft up a list of ~5 in-state schools, public and private, and maybe 2 OOS schools (1 public, 1 private). Be sure that at least 2 of your list you are really confident to get in. Honestly (though you haven’t listed the rigor of the courses you’ve took or any special circumstances that could’ve affected your gpa) your statistics are on the lower end of many of the applicants you will encounter on this site and when looking at colleges. That being said, you still totally have the chance of finding a great school to fit your interests. But just know that many flagship public universities–possibly even the University of Maryland–are recieving applications from students with much better statistics than you. So don’t get caught up in the hype of applying to name-brand schools. Those are the ones that everyone knows about and everyone’s applying to, and frankly you have a lower chance of getting in with such a low SAT and average GPA. Hope this helps, and keep your chin up! Try using the collegeboards search feature to get you started.
