I think it’s okay. I think our academic rep is better than 34th but a lot of public peers fell in this year’s issue, so I’ll take it. We’re ranked alongside Illinois, Texas, Wake, and BU, schools I respect immensely.

Everybody missed it - move over Michigan, Wisconsin, UIUC, Ohio State, Purdue, etc.

Make room for Northern Iowa !!

Just ask them (sans disclaim) in their FB ad. That’s ok - lots mis advertise. U New Haven is advertising for Fall 2026. When you click more info , it goes to the home page. Not a disclaimer.

They’re not wrong but this is the issue with US News segmentation. And btw - they’re #12 in the rank but it’s true, the #1 public.

My two cents is generic rankings of research universities for undergrad purposes make little sense, and Wisconsin is among the examples.

Like one US News ranking I basically believe as applied to Wisconsin is #4 in Best Value for In-State Students. No kidding! What a great university to have as your in-state flagship option, and I understand Minnesota kids also get reciprocity.

But of course some from other states will be drawn to the classic Big Ten/awesome college town experience combined with top academic departments. In fact I grew up in Michigan, but my high school sent a decent number of kids to Wisconsin on a regular basis. They didn’t want to stay in-state, but were still looking for that sort of college.

Anyway, my point is Wisconsin can rightly be very high on some lists. And other kids will rightly not consider it at all (wrong sort of college, not a location they want, not affordable, or so on). Which to me is illustrating why generic rankings make no sense, colleges like this will almost always be either much higher or nowhere at all.
