<p>How many times have we seen threads on this forum where a poster needs to find a dress for an occasion and several other women are buying up dresses too! Well, it’s always a good feeling to have a few dresses to choose from in our closets when that occasion comes up. :)</p>

<p>I’d love to help you find something! What’s the occasion? Any particular colors? What’s the price range you want to stay with? 5"3" is considered a petite size? Sleeveless okay? Cap sleeves? Short/Long sleeves? Geez, 128 1lbs is small…what size would that be? (I’m a pear too, but a bit larger !)</p>
<p>I am shrinking so maybe 5’2.5. Yes, petitie pants but the petite tops are often too short.
I would like a few things for weddings and parties. I am ok with sleeveless or any sleeve. Arms not too bad. And I am always hot. Shoes cannot be very high and are tough as I am just shy of a 8.5 narrow. I typically wear black pants, black tank and then a solid sweater/top. I never wear anything not layered as I frequently undress at gatherings. I have a lot of time finding things to wear in the winter when we entertain as I am just too warm (not even hot flashes warm, just warm).
I hate anything constricting. Easy?
Do not like scarves unless they are short and simply hang down the sides. Big jewelry has never worked on me, though I think it is cool.
I am best in winter colors. Deep Aqua, Fushia, and most winter greens.

<p>I am by no means an expert. Just someone who likes to look at clothing websites as a way of de-stressing. I will look! I’m sure others here can find interesting choices for you too!</p>
<p>So, are dresses a contender at all, or would you rather stay with pants? What about dresses or tunic tops with leggings or tights? Too hot? Do you ever look at the clothing websites that will offer you free shipping and free returns?</p>
<p>When you entertain, a beautiful pair of black pants with a jewel toned burgundy or wine colored satin-y top may be nice…if you’re petite, you probably would want to stick with small jewelry anyway…not the big, chunky kind. </p>

<p>I think you’ll have to give me more information to narrow it down considerably. You mentioned Aqua…I just found this dress at Nordstrom for only $70! Is this what you have in mind? It sort of draws the eye upward so if you are a bit of a pear shape, this could work? </p>
<p>It shows in the white, but they also have a pretty greenish color and a pretty magenta color too…</p>
<p>Maybe there are other women out there that can help narrow down a few choices? I saw some pretty tops at the Ann Taylor website, but they tend to be more structured in general. Maybe someone can give you more suggestions. Where do you usually shop? Do you want tops with “bling”? Sequins or sparkle? Unstructured I usually think of Eileen Fisher…I went over to the Chico’s website too because they usually have bright colors but I didn’t see anything that special…anyone else out there that can help Oregon101 find some nice “party” clothes, not dresses? :)</p>

<p>Oregon, I am your woman. I prefer unstructured clothes, I almost never wear dresses, I wear regular sizes on top and petites on the bottom, and I am always hot! I’m the opposite of you in that I have no waist but also no hips, but I can imagine.</p>
<p>Do you like to wear things that are more fitted to the waist and fuller below, or do you prefer more room all over?</p>
<p>I tried on some dresses from Macy’s and ordered more from Nordstroms. Hopefully I will find something. I’m not loving the styles but I have time. So many years I’ve walked past beautiful dresses in the stores and wished I had some reason to even try them on, and now, I need to buy two dresses and nothing feels or looks right on me. </p>
<p>I’m fairly certain that the problem is that I don’t want to attend either of these events and we had a death in the family during the holdiays last year so the whole thing is just stirring up bad memories rather than glad tidings. </p>
<p>I’ve talked to a few other women who are attending the wedding and they are wearing long dresses so I am going to try a few of those. I just feel weird in them but…when in Rome! The good news is that I think my extra holiday pounds will be easier to hide in a long dress.</p>

<p>Oregon, your style sounds like mine. I have not been to a wedding in years, so gave away 5 fancy dresses to hospital thrift store (which is a great place to shop.) The long one was only worn once.</p>
<p>I will occasionally buy a beautiful silk blouse from Elie Tahari and the like, and wear with black pants. I don’t buy long sleeves, unless they have a tab to roll up. I tried but couldn’t find my last blouse on their website. The black jacket just gets put on chair.</p>
<p>Glad to hear about your search! It find it especially difficult to find things when I don’t really want to attend. I think finding a long dress could be fun. I have only worn one in at least two decades.
As for myself, I started looking up muu muu’s at the Vermont store for laughs. I have always told my D that I thought I would be wearing housedresses, drinking beer, and watching daytime tv by now.</p>
<p>What looks good on me is a structured suit. The beautiful things Consolation posted would have looked great on me 20 years ago. Now I want comfort and a softer material.
I like longer tops and sweaters that dip in at the waist.</p>
<p>But back to OP. I do not shop well at Nordstroms. I do much better at smaller boutiques. Have looked Zappoes for dresses? They are so fast and so easy to return. I am going to go look for you right now…</p>

I buy most of my shoes from them. I order 8 at a time, sometimes, and they arrive in two days. I send those that I do not want back the same day at no cost.

Now if I can only fit into some of those dresses I recommend…I’ve gone from a small to a medium to a large the last 5 years or so. I was blaming it on menopause, but I think chocolate (and too much binge-ing) is really the culprit! Waaay too much stress! Maybe 2014 will be the year I drop those lbs. to become a medium again!! Need to exercise that stress away.</p>
