New Year's Eve in Vegas

Has anyone spent New Year’s eve in Las Vegas? If so - any suggestions?

Never spend new years there, but just returned from a long weekend and had a blast!! And I do not gamble. At.All.

HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this show (le reve) at the Wynn http://www.wynnlasvegas.com/shows/

Stayed at The Wynn. Wonderful!!!

We go to Vegas all the time but never on New Years. Always wanted to. Thanksgiving too (I hear it’s great for empty-nesters, great buffets and pretty empty).

Would love to hear from people who’ve actually been there during New Years.

Second the recommend for the Wynn.

Haven’t been at new Years but did go at Thanksgiving with my Mum one year. We were so excited about the champagne buffet on Thanksgiving day at out hotel - sounded wonderful. Then we got down there and discovered the line - rough estimate of waiting time was 3 HOURS!!!. We had a show to go to so had to settle for a very boring meal at a cafe. Hugely disappointing. :(

It was not empty at all.

Actually, to clarify, Le Reve is not a Cirque du soleil production, but is probably similar to “O”, which I have not seen. Its at the Bellagio, IIRC.

Just saw Elton at Caesars Palace. Really enjoyed that as well.

Haha, I deleted my dissing of La Reve because I thought it was unfair. I’m just not a fan of Cirque du Soliel, although I am looking forward for the Michael Jackson show being developed at Mandalay Bay.

Elton was great. So was Garth Brooks. I loved O. And Mystere. Then I got bored of Cirque du Soleil, but they are all good. My favorite is Ka at MGM because it has the most story.

oops- didn’t see you deleted the latter part of your post :o

Saw The Michael Jackson show in my hometown. It was not in the intimate theaters like Vegas (ie we had nosebleed seats) but the tixs were more affordable  Really enjoyed that show! I do agree that there is a lot of overlap in many of the shows.

Elton was a lot of fun! Also enjoyed the celebrity sitings. Morgan Freeman, Jay Leno and David Spade were there. David sat right behind me (literally).

I spend New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas almost every year – because I live there! :)

Even if you’re still not sure you’re coming, book a hotel room now. They will only get more expensive as the holiday approaches, and you can always cancel if you decide not to come.

If you plan to ring in the new year with the crowd outside on the Strip, wear comfy shoes and a warm sweater. There is no place to sit, and it could be pretty cold.

If you don’t enjoy the crazy crowds, there are many more sedate options. Many restaurants have special late hours that night.

Swimcatsmom,
That’s terrible but good to know!
Thanks.

Don’t bother with a buffet unless your idea of eating well is just eating a lot. There are many many well regarded restaurants in Las Vegas. Most of their menus are available online for review. ( But make your dinner reservations now along with your hotel reservations. )
