Our power came back on this afternoon after being off for 36 1/2 hours, so we are in a celebratory mood. We met some friends for wine and fried chicken at a great new place in Portland (two different businesses in a building that used to house a factory). Now we’ll watch some TV and ring in the New Year. D is out with her friends.
My hope for 2017 is that not a single one of my immediate family ends up in the ER! That would be an improvement.
At the moment, sitting on the couch, H napping on my left, the pup napping on my right, older “pup” at my feet. I’ve got a glass of nice prosecco and some strawberries, watching Kathy and Anderson on CNN. Can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing. Life is good.
14 month old sleeping, their dog is shaking on a blanket outside of her door due to the neighborhood
fireworks. H has just left to drive D and BF and our special D (like a D) and her H to a hip neighborhood.
They will have drinks with a friend who lives a block from the restaurant where the 4 of them are having oysters and fried chicken and something else for $65 each.
They have a reservation for a Lynck (can’t remember but is like Uber) to get home.
We have bad weather headed here and H must take D and BF to the airport at 5 a.m.
We bought tire socks today–just in case! They are cool things.
Other D and H and baby will sleep here and breakfast and go home.
All is wonderful but man do I feel old!
I am going to watch a movie in the family room near the baby’s room and when they get home at 12:30 have a drink with them. Have a potato corn chowder made for them.
Happy New Year!
2 more hours! A news anchor just announced that the music for the Space Needle fireworks will celebrate the artists we lost this year. Gonna watch for sure.
Got home from the fancy wedding at 11:45. Raced upstairs, took off the dressy clothes and put on my favorite comfy stuff, poured a glass of wine (didn’t drink much at the wedding because I’d offered to drive home if DH felt like imbibing, which he really didn’t very much), turned on the fireplace, and saw 2017 arrive. Within minutes, DH is sound asleep on the couch.
H, S and I went out to dinner. Watched the ball drop. Sent and received a bunch of texts. And now I am here! Not really wanting to go to bed and will regret it in the morning. Haha. H is asleep.
I’m just reflecting on 2016. Actually 2008-2016 and how so many awful things happened. Will 2017 be the turning point? I can only pray and hope.
It is not that easy to find on the web… King5 covers the whole thing, and I think they want web viewers to download some sort of an app to be able to watch. I remember scrambling to get it loaded a couple of years ago when we in HI and wanted to watch the show at the Needle.
All returned by 11:30–all early 30’s-- :(( getting older themselves…
Baby slept. Dog shook. H slept.
They arrived and took champagne glasses of water to toast! I made myself a bourbon!
But the very best was that S sent a voice message from 4 year old G’son saying Happy NEW Year.
Nope–he should be in bed but they thought of us! and that made me happy.
Although, S said, Tell dad about this" as he knows that H was not going to make it until 12:00.
All of these young people bragged and bragged about this fried chicken they had tonight and
also brought a huge amount home. A whole chicken for 2.
So–I cannot eat much of any poultry as am intolerant. One egg will make me ill for 2 days.
But! I decided to try a few bites…OMG–They think this is the best ever–It is, I swear,
a very heavy corn flake crust–like a cereal. I will not say one word.
