<p>Hey guys,I just immigrated here and the system here seems is confusing me.I am currently a junior but i do not have credits for PE,so i have to PE this year(also some regular classes because my counselor didnt allow me to take part in too many APs and i didnt know nothing about GPA at that time).I am doing quite well in the courses and i am planning to take some APs on my own in order to get the AP national scholar.I want to do this because i dun really have any honours/awards to list in my application and i have some previous knowledge for most of those APs from the school i was from.However,i am afraid this will show that i am a person with no “life”??I also find out that ECs are really important here ( in my place ECs are not importnat at all - - and i only am participating in a math team now)…I want to go to some UCs.am i screwed??..thx for reading my poor english and helping me out=)</p>
<p>Since you want to go to a UC, try to get a 1800-1900 SAT score, do 2 SAT II Subject Tests, do some EC, and take as much AP classes as you can. Also, mention that you’re a recent immigrant in your personal statement. You don’t have to be National AP Scholar to get into a UC, you know.</p>

<p>You said that in your place EC’s aren’t important at all… the real reason to do EC’s is for YOURSELF, not for some admissions officer - for example, I don’t really do that many EC’s, but I do play football and I really like that and I devote a lot of time and effort to being good at it. Do what you love, not what will look good. It sounds trite, but it really is the truth.</p>
<p>ya drought you are absolutely right.You know I wanted to play some sports and when i went to the tryout stuff.I found out that i needed an insurance in order to take part,so i was screwed since all the sports i play was like during the winter.I was also afraid that people will laugh at my english and stuff,so I didnt try to take part.I will try to be more active.Anyway thx drought=)</p>
