Hell. I am late for my tour. I am trying to catch up what I missed in the last few minutes. I am trying to listen to the tour guide. Why do you want to bother me?
@“Cardinal Fang” Don’t forget the UF incident with minority kids being manhandled for celebrating.
I’m hoping another college reaches out to these kids, preferably one that is welcoming to non-white kids. The whole thing breaks my heart.
The one quieter young man looked visibly shaken and fearful to me when he was being questioned. Just another thing that broke my heart. The momma bear in me is livid. No reason these young men needed to be subjected to this especially at such an impressionable and important age where they are going out into the world to educate themselves and become more independent.
^@doschicos, and, while I don’t know if it’s true for these boys, I think its not unlikely (if they grew up in a pueblo/ reservation) that going away to college may be even a bigger, scarier step for them than it is for students living in a more mainstream environment. What a rude awakening for them…
I also wanted to say because I haven’t seen it mentioned that although the mother said someone else on the tour was concerned, that doesn’t mean someone else actually was. Crazy overbearing mom inquisitions boys who don’t respond. Asks another person on the tour if those boys are weird. That person just nods and goes back to focusing on the tour. That could be the “agreement”. The tour guide was not concerned and they caught up very early into the tour.
I don’t understand having grace for the mother’s weird behavior but not the kids. The 911 call is weird. She goes on and on and mentions she’s an artist randomly? My white son would likely not engage with a random parent that starting shaking him down for info on a college tour. And then he’d come home and say “Wow - there was a nutty mom on the college tour grilling me for info”. He wouldn’t call the police on her though even though that would make about as much sense as the mom calling.
^They are Mohawk from NY but moved to New Mexico and attended a NA school. Their mother seemed genuinely frightened for them. I think the CSU president might have Jessica Fletcher’s family blacklisted from CSU. Definitely not on the tour and definitely Hispanic. Quite an amazing sleuth that one.
DS2 is quite and would have been creeped out by some middle age Jessica Fletcher quizzing him. I am a 100% confident though that no matter how scruffy he looked that day (and those kids looked like normal kids to me BTW) that his blonde hair and blue eyes would protect him from a police call.
Also definitely lying about their intended major. Moonbat Mom has psychic powers.
I haven’t read this entire thread but I did see news coverage… so this mother sees 2 kids on a college tour and becaus they are different than her and her family, that makes her suspicious??? Suspicious enough to take matters into her own hands to call the police??? What a teachable moment about diversity. Did this woman live under a rock and never leave her house? Has she not seen people who are different than she is before? She and the college owe these young men an apology.
Comment: “Sylvan: The boys are probably not receiving death threats (although, who knows these days), but SHE will. Do you find that a reasonable punishment for her actions?”
Answer: @sylvan8798 Yes, I do think she needs to suffer whatever consequences occur. Only when there are consequences will things change. I am so horrified that this can still actually happen.
Good Lord. You are actually fine with this woman getting DEATH THREATS as a result of her overstepping in a situation because she deserves it since "Only when there are consequences will things change, when it was pointed out to you what consequences will occur?
This response is the most disturbing thing on this thread.
@sylvan8798 “So if someone made a death threat and actually carried it out - hey, good job, dude?”
Mamom; I never said that. I said this women should be held accountable for her actions. She wasn’t. She made a mistake. I am assuming it was racial. Maybe it wasn’t. Either way, she gets off scott free while these two young men don’t.
Mamom, Yes, you actually DID say that she should suffer “whatever consequences occur”, even when Sylvan said exactly what the resulting consequence would be. Now you are trying to back off from what you actually did say.
We live in a very disturbing world if your comments represent any segment of the population.
Agree @Tranquil mind. Nobody even knows if this is racially motivated yet some feel death threats are justified. Of course I don’t feel death threats are justified no matter what her motivations.
This is extremely disturbing.
Curiosa: We can’t talk about white fear as if it’s harmless. Legally, it’s been weaponized. “Stand your ground” laws in states like Florida have made it legal to kill people, if you assert that you were afraid of them. Technically Justice is supposed to be blind, but of course in practice these laws are pretty much solely used to protect whites who attack minorities from accountability.
Now that is just bigoted nonsense. News flash: No one is out to mow people down for fun because they are of a different skin color.
We won’t even get into all the violence that has occurred either completely randomly because someone is drugged up, or of various races against each other over stupid stuff like drug sales or relationships.
galentijill: When on tours, I will instinctively chat with the other parents. Sometimes the kids enthusiastically join in and sometimes they stay quiet. I can’t see myself grilling an unaccompanied teen on a tour. The only way I could see ending up in an extended conversation is if it were initiated by the kid.
Me too! I talk to everyone everywhere who is remotely willing! I don’t care what age, color, size…whatever you are. If you are interested, I’m going to talk to you and we are going to pass a pleasant time waiting in line or whatever we are doing (not while others are talking while giving a tour, of course, but in between).
"CottonTales: If she would apologize in a sincere manner, it would be such a teachable moment to her children as well as others. Sadly, I doubt that is going to happen. "
Oh, I don’t know. I think she will. I hope she will and let her children be in on it. At any rate, the only one who should be talking to her about the impact of this is the mother of the two boys, and I hope she gets a chance. Armchair judging and passing sentence, as some have, is not useful.
News flash: Innocent people of color are being mowed down when white people in the same situation do not get shot.
Another case of overreaction:
"We won’t even get into all the violence that has occurred either completely randomly because someone is drugged up, or of various races against each other over stupid stuff like drug sales or relationships.
You’re right we won’t because it has no bearing on this incident or this thread. Totally nothing to do with anything. Zippo. Zilch.
Doschicos: Exactly. Same as different incidents mentioned above by several posters as support for their assertions that this woman should be publicly outed and endangered.
Nope, it’s not the same. Racial discrimination, profiling, implicit bias do have to do with this thread. Sorry you don’t see it.
