News article: Parent called police on young Native American men who joined campus tour group

@Consolation says
“What rock do these people crawl out from under? She should be publicly shamed the way she shamed them.”

I’m still trying to get a clear answer on what this would accomplish. I haven’t seen a good reason yet. And yes this type of “public shaming” is often accompanied by dear threats. Is that OK?

I would like the woman who called to recognize she made a mistake and privately apologize to the boys at a minimum.

Don’t get me wrong – if she had a real awakening, realized how implicit bias was a factor in her actions, and wanted to make a public statement stating so much, that’d be an amazing way to turn lemons into lemonade and make it a teachable moment for others. But I’m not expecting that to happen.

I do appreciate the college president’s comments and efforts to reach out to the family.

There is a very real chance that she has no idea what happened after her call. This is not national news. She may be totally unaware that anyone else even heard about it.

Against my better judgment, I am going to answer bhs above.

Forget the hyperbole of death threats, etc. By naming this woman and perhaps charging her with some kind of misdemeanor, perhaps that would act as a deterrent to people who call the police for inconsequential reasons. Perhaps that would give them pause. That’s all people are saying.

@MomOf3DDs This IS national news and she is a local Colorado parent anyway. This is being covered extensively in Colorado. Her 911 call has been released and pictures of the boys. Yeah right she “doesn’t know about it.”

Where did the assumption that the caller would be subject to realistic death threats if she were known come from?

Umm, not true. I saw it on the front page of CNN’s web site. Also saw it on the Washington Post and New York Times.

I don’t know if we will ever be able to stop crazy frightened people from calling the police irresponsibly, but why do the police have to respond? Or else, couldn’t they simply have shown up and discretely looked over the tour group, seen that nothing was going on and let it go? I would love to see some better education on that end.

Cardinal Fang. It is very rare for anyone - of color or no color or any color - to be “mowed down”, false narrative notwithstanding. If you listen to the media, people of color are killed all day long every day by the police, but in reality, a few dozen people are tragically killed every year by the police.

Out of curiosity, I did a quick search for 2017. This showed up: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/national/police-shootings-2017/

I clicked on race, out of the several categories, out of curiosity. Here are the numbers broken down for 2017:

White 457
Black 223
Hispanic 179
Other 44
Unknown 84

Way too many, of course. But we only hear about a select few, especially where there are riots stirred up, because, as you undoubtedly know, if it bleeds, it leads.

Sorry, I hadn’t seen it anywhere but here. My bad.

“By naming this woman and perhaps charging her with some kind of misdemeanor,”

What “misdemeanor” could she possibly be charged with? I didn’t know it was illegal to be afraid. If it was in fact done for racial reasons, could you please point me to the law that says it is illegal to be a racist or illegal to have a bad thought about someone with a different ethnicity?

I’m still confused about the timeline. The kids show up, a little late, join the tour, but then all of a sudden disappear from the tour. Didn’t anybody see the police take them off, or wonder what happened to these kids? It didn’t sound like it was a huge tour, maybe 15 or 20 people? Just trying to get some clearer idea of how this could have happened . It certainly is unfortunate that this woman made that phone call. But , if she truly felt nervous or suspicious, not sure how you could make it a crime to call the police.

The Moonbat family isn’t going to be sorry unless they are caught. Remember that she was SICKENED by two Native Americans touring campus (Of course being an expert thought they were from Mexico). She was with them maybe 20 minutes. She approached minors who were compete strangers and interrogated them. Who does this family think they are?

Ugh why did I listen to her call??? Really,?? She was sickened???

She goes on to say “ with everything going on”…everything like what? What profile did these men fit? What Latinos have been charged with shooting up a campus??

I bet the woman who called on the Black women staying at AirBNB sounds just like her. “How dare they not wave back” , “ how dare those boys not engage me in conversation “. I’m so shaking I’m so mad right now.

^Yup. That part especially confirmed she is a racist POS.

@ucbalumnus “Where did the assumption that the caller would be subject to realistic death threats if she were known come from?”

Excellent question. There is a real persistence to this idea that we should see her as a potential victim instead of the aggressor and enforcer of (what she considered) cultural norms. People keep coming back to the theme that she is or could have been or might someday be at risk from some menacing, unnamed threat… and that’s why we should protect her from accountability at all costs. How conveeeenient, as the Church Lady would say (think I just dated myself).

^ Wow, responses like some of these are why this woman will never, no matter what’s in her heart, be able to make a public apology. It was a very unfortunate incident and she overreacted. She clearly needs to get outside of whatever bubble she’s been living in. I feel awful for the boys who were the victims of her [perhaps racist] paranoia, but if she’s being called things like a “racist POS” on CC, can you not imagine that she could be put in danger in the wider world of loony vigilantes and vicious internet bridge dwellers?

After listening to the tape she repeatedly said she thought she was just being paranoid and that this was probably nothing. Was she wrong for calling her paranoia in? Probably, but she did nothing illegal in my book. Once in a while I’ll watch someone who is acting strangely whatever their race, but I wouldn’t call 911 unless they actually did something.

@MomOf3DDs

Beside those reported in post #305 & 307

It also one of the top stories broadcast on the national CBS Evening News Saturday evening.

Multiple front page stories in the Denver Post too.

It’s gotten HUGE coverage in local print and broadcast news in CO, NM and WY on multiple days. Since CSU doesn’t exactly draw its students from a national pool, it’s highly likely the tour mom is CO resident. She can’t possibly have missed the uproar.
