Has anyone used it? Are there any unexpected outcome one should be aware of ?

A hormonal implant that lasts for three years?
Why not just get an iud without the hormones?

D started last November. Outcomes: no periods, no more moodiness, less migraines, less acne.

This isn’t an option for everyone and not everyone likes the feeling of an IUD. Many, many women need the hormones: to control cysts, acne, etc.

I’ve been on Implanon for almost two years and I am IN LOVE with it. Very few periods, great protection, not having to take the pill every day, the list goes on. When I get it switched out next year, I’m getting another one right away.

The only issue I had was that it left a pretty big bruise for quite a while. This was only a problem because it was August and I wasn’t going to wear sleeves to cover it. Didn’t hurt, was just bruised.

I also never know when my periods are going to come. They’re incredibly random but they only happen 3-4 times per year.

romani, do you still get period with the implant?

Yes, every once in a great while. It’s not uncommon for some people do get occasional periods though many completely stop.

Sounds like it is more like the breakthrough bleeding one would sometimes experience with low dose BC pills.

Entirely possible.

Is the breakthrough bleeding as heavy as a period? If there are no other side effects, it’s excellent.

For me, no. It was shorter and lighter with very few other symptoms (very minor cramping, etc). It didn’t feel like a real period.

Thank you, romani.
