Nieces and nephews

Yea I know… Guess I’m bored this morning. (Having friends over for dinner tonight and thinking of ways to procrastinate).

Anyways, I have a very nice and very generous sil. I like her a lot. She has 3 children who are now in college. Mine are out of college. We’ve always exchanged gifts with the kids. I know she will get something for my kids.

I’m really stumped over what to get for one of my nephews this year. I don’t want to give cash because I’m trying to cut down on the money I spend on them and cash puts it out there how much you spend. But out of respect for their mother I will still buy them something.

Anyways I could use suggestions of what to get this kid. He’s taking a break from college right now and living at home. He’s 22. I know he could use the cash but I found something for his brother and sister and want to find something for him. What I bought for the other kids won’t work for him.

I’m probably overthinking this but I’d love any suggestions. Or should I just break down and get him a gas card because I know he could use it?

After I posted I remembered. I’d like to spend around $30.

I’m thinking of buying nephew a Leatherman tool.

I like the gas card idea best.

Still, I had bought 2 pairs of socks at the Polo store, on sale for total,of 30. One pair was an argyle with prettiest pattern. My male houseguest and I exchanged gifts before he left. He said, " I saw something wrapped for me, but I’d really like that pair of socks."

Made both of us happy.

Can you tell us anything about his interests, etc. that might help us zero in on possibilities? People who aren’t in college likely have a broad range of routines and lifestyles. Is he in a city or rural, a sports fan, a big reader, into music, tech gear or movies? Do you live nearby?

I am with you. Nieces and nephew are cherished, yet in these college years it can feel hard to know the gift that will be most appreciated.

I’d go with a gift card. Music, coffee shop, gas – something you think he will use.

Gift cards are the same as cash in that the receiver knows just what you spent. But a gas card would be appreciated for sure. A few other ideas:

–I got my S a wireless phone charger (for a Samsung galaxy) this year as one of his small gifts – it was on sale at amazon-- but you do need to know what kind of phone he has . Other phone gadgets like a car charger if he doesn’t have one might be good as well.

–If he has a tv in his bedroom, maybe Chromecast (if you can get in on sale).

–Can look for a sweater on sale.

–Something related to a sports team he likes (even a calendar, hat etc.)

A gift of popcorn and sweets, along with a gift card to a movie theater complex?

I know it’s like cash, but a gas card or a GC to Auto Zone or similar would likely be appreciated. My S is always tinkering with his car. If the kid is handy, a GC to Home Depot or Lowes, maybe. And phone gadgets are many-a “fast” charger, an emergency power supply, a sturdy case (S swears by them), a mini bluetooth speaker-all of those hit your price range.

Thanks everyone. I think I’ll go with a gas card.

He’s into European soccer and video games.

I think he really just needs money at this point and gas money is appreciated.

Depending where he lives (and if he stores his car indoors or outdoors) you could get a nice ice scraper with a muff type thing or a can of the de-icer - and attach the gas car to that.

Ok, how about suffers toons for 15 and 16 yo boys?

I’m thinking of this for a few young types whose interests I don’t really know: https://www.thegrommet.com/gifts/under-25/keysmart

Oh that looks handy. Might be good for the new driver, or the dad. Never saw that website before, tons of good ideas.

What are suffer toons, oh my.
