Can someone give me a little rundown about the williams social scene? The only time I visited was on a thursday and nothing was going on, but how wild are the students on the weekends? With regards to brown, my second choice, is there really that much of a difference in nightlife and things going on? Thanks!

so you missed the earlier posts about the naked, drunken party at Brown huh??

Is there a difference between Brown and Williams in terms of “nightlife and things going on” ?? This is a bit like asking whether there is any difference between UC Santa Barbara and Iowa State in terms of surfing.

Brown is much larger, is located in a funky urban area, and has a reputation for great parties (including, literally, naked parties). Wikipedia.org puts it this way:

“Brown is home to an active on-campus nightlife. A wide array of parties take place on the weekends, most of them in dorms and off-campus houses. Greek life is restricted to a fraction of the Brown student body, though they do take the spotlight during the annual Spring Weekend. Some parties, such as the Queer Alliances debauched SexPowerGod and Star****, are annual occurrences.”

Williams is much smaller, is located in an isolated country village with a one-block downtown, and has no Greek system whatsoever. Williams has a reputation as a place to pursue outdoor recreation – sports, hiking, and skiing. Williams students can certainly drink and party (especially when it’s too cold to play outside), but there is no way that the “nightlife” at Williams approaches that of Brown. Not even close.

A liberal arts school in a small town with parties similar to Brown would be best represented in Oberlin. The annual Drag Ball and the “Safer Sex Night” are highlights of the year. Granted, there aren’t as many good places to hang out/whatever, but it’s the same type of funky atmosphere.

Williams has a “queer bash” twice per year. It attracts gays and lesbians from virtually alll New England colleges
