Nightlife

Most citizens of today’s globalized world have surely experienced what we so commonly call “nightlife”. Pubs, discos, nightclubs, bars, etc.

What I’m curious about is when (historically/culturally) and why did human beings actually start this widespread phenomena of seeking entertainment at night?

Is it something historically recent or has been part of the human being across time and space?

Are there also psychological or biological reasons of “going out” at night?
Or is it merely a consequence of the socioculturally imposed division of the day (sleep –> work –> entertainment at night)?

Thanks

Who knows why people do these things? I’m usually in bed by 9 p.m., including weekends. I much prefer the “morninglife”; instead of beer and shooters, I have eggs and toast.

It’s awesome.

Okay, I understand.

Well, daytime has always been about fulfilling obligations to other people

Night has the quality of being secret to an extent…day is bright and exposed and busy and filled with expectations (work, etc.) Night is the time when you’re let loose–free to do whatever, while authority figures that you answer to in the daytime are sleeping

then the next morning you go back to whatever it is you have to do, and no one has to know. that’s what makes it fun. it’s an escape
