Nike + ipod

I’m looking for feedback on the Nike + ipod. I may get one for my son’s birthday. If you or your kid have experience w/ it, I’d like to know what you think. Love it…hate it…overrated…perfect…whatever has been your experience. Thanks.

I am the Gadget Queen and a serious runner. I have both the Garmin 305 and the Nike+IPOD. The Garmin is MUCH more accurate at tracking distance, if that is what you want. The Nike is fun to have (a voice tells you when you have reached certain mile points and congratulates you at the end of the workout), but it is not nearly as accurate. Also, you either have to have a special Nike shoe to put the sensor in (goes under the insole) or buy one of the after-market products (cheap) that attach to your shoe laces and hold the sensor on top of your shoe. My son tells me serious athlets wouldn’t be caught dead with the Nike+ IPOD. You also have to have the IPOD Nano to use it. That said, it’s easy to set up and use and I think it’s fun. When you change shoes you have to move the sensor, of course.

My friend went on and on about how great this thing is. How it tracks your running workouts and gives you detailed stats online. He apparently checks out his son’s workouts online while his son is away at college. He insisted that I couldn’t live without it and it didn’t cost too much. But he forgot to mention that the device only worked with an iPod. He was totally floored when I told him I didn’t have an iPod.

Son is having a great time with his so far. It only works with the nano though.
(Solid state-no moving parts- but less memory)

There was a news report on TV about these sensors - and the dangers of them - it was related to a college campus and the ability of ‘tracking’ someone ‘live’ - could well be used for stalking someone - they showed an example of an x-b/f following his ex around campus - he knew exactly where she was at all times :frowning:

Sorry to be the devil’s advocate on this…

I could only be stalked while I was running!
