NJ car inspections

<p>riffing on the registration question, here’s a state specific one: Anyone know the state of the inspection situation in NJ right now? I know they were going to drop mechanical, but as far as I can tell, it’s been put on hold. We have two vehicles up for July inspection. One’s a 2006 due for its first, and should pass anything easily, but avoiding the more rigorous inspection would be simpler. The other’s a 94 Caravan with issues like non-working windshield wipers (we don’t take it out in the rain–basically, it just hauls the kayaks, and who wants to kayak in rain?). So we’d love to avoid the mechanical inspection for that one, but I can’t get a clear picture on what’s going on. It was supposed to change July 1, but apparently hasn’t.</p>

<p>As old cars folks in NJ also, we are waiting impatiently for this change.</p>

<p>I read in the paper last week that it is going to be in place a month later then planned. My car is due for its first inspection in September.</p>
