NJIT Honors College Supplement Essay-Need help with Ideas or format

I’ve been having quite a bit of trouble figuring out how to respond to the prompt:

“What academic, educational or other experiences have you had that provide a foundation for participating in the Honors College? Limit your essay to 300 words.”

And it seems like they want students to be straightforward and honest? It shouldn’t be like a college essay.

Also, I wasn’t sure about what to choose to write about? I’m applying for a Computer Science major. So, I thought I should write about computer science related experiences…but I really can only talk about AP Computer Science and whatever else Ive done online…or I could mention a competition, Chemimagination, hosted by American Chemistry Society at Princeton University. Unfortunately, I didn’t win any awards, but I felt like I learned extensively and it was a good experience…the only concern is that it’s limited to science…:confused: I could bring up how programming would be needed for the topic I decided to tackle.

Yes, they want you to be genuine. I think you have some good ideas here - just make sure to incorporate YOU, your motivations, your goals - when you describe any experiences…

I don’t really think the essay has to be computer science or even science related. Dorman Honors Colloquia are multi-discipline (as are the students in the Honors College). The intent to offer the Honors Students an opportunity for a well rounded set of experiences, that extends beyond the major or coursework. For example, the tagline on the Colloquia Series for Dorman Honors (from the NJIT website) is:

“Staying informed about all aspects of the world around you beyond your professional interests is an essential component of leadership”
