Accepted:

Bs: 5

School had 4 semi-finalists and 3 were called into the office and told they were finalists (certificates will be given at a special event). The kids talked amongst themselves and guessed that it was due to the fact that none of them had any Cs except for the one who was rejected.

Accepted. Probably equal number of Bs and As, one C+, unweighted GPA of 3.5, 230 on PSAT, 2280
on SAT.

It might help to post state as well. I think this could have a bearing on the discussion and help frame this topic up. Just like there are different qualifying scores on a state level basis, there will likely be different qualifying stats. Appears to be a numbers game (much like college accpetance, etc.) and that could be very different in different states. Not complaining, just curious.

You should mention what state you’re from because it does make a difference.

Why would what State you’re from make a difference at the semi final to final stage?

When the NMSC selects from the finalists those who will receive the $2,500 scholarship, the state will count, for the $2,500 schoalrship is awarded on a state representational basis (see the section on "Types of Merit Scholarship Awards " [National Merit Scholarship Corporation - NMSP](http://www.nationalmerit.org/nmsp.php)).

Daughter was accepted. 1 C, 4 Bs and the rest As.

In our county, 34 of 36 NMSF’s advanced to NMF, spread among 7 different high schools.

Congrats for getting NMF guys!

Son was accepted from WI. All A’s (one A-). No B’s or C’s.

Accepted!

And with 8 B’s, stupid EC’s like Skyping with strangers, a mediocre essay with errors, and a SAT score below 2000!

I can’t believe I almost gave up on this recognition last year ago when I got a referral for plagiarizing and a C in that class (changed to a B by getting a 4 on the AP exam) and when I struggled with writing that required essay (writing is my worst subject).

The funny thing is that my PSAT score wouldn’t have qualified me for Semi-finalist if I were not “kidnapped” and then “abandoned” by my biological mother.
She lives in California, and my biological father lives in Texas, which I considered moving to as a sophomore and junior.

I definitely don’t deserve the recognition. My heart goes out to those rejected as an independent teen who has seriously worried about her future since the age of 9. I believe you guys will still pay off all your debts and achieve more than what the majority of American youth will ever achieve.

Accepted
