I’m a high school junior from a very small island in Wisconsin. At my school, there are no AP, IB, or honors classes offered. I’ve tried convincing my teachers to teach an AP class, but the school won’t let them because the class wouldn’t be big enough. There’s about 80 kids in K-12 here, and about 30 in high school. I’ll be taking the ACT in about a month, and I’m starting to get a little nervous about my results and colleges. My question is, how badly will this affect my chances of getting into a prestigious school? UCLA has been my top choice, but now starting to rethink a bit. USC is also high on my list, and if I absolutely have to stay in Wisconsin, UW Madison is my top choice.
Projected ACT scores based off of ACT Aspire: 23-27
^ I’ll admit I didn’t really try hard on this test as I had no idea we would get projected scores out of this and I was pretty annoyed with taking another standardized test. I barely remember taking this lol. In retrospect, that was a horrible idea.
I moved to this island 3 years ago, and have been ranked as number 1 since, however my class only has 5 students. I’ve been a straight A student and maintained at least a 4.0 GPA throughout all my years of school, however I don’t know the weighted vs nonweighted thing… As my class only has 4 other students, I have very good chances of being valedictorian.
At the end of this school year I’ll have completed 3 college credit courses, and probably another 4 next year. Next year I’ll also be taking the EMT class worth 5 college credits to become a partime EMT on the island. My ECs aren’t great, with very limited opportunities here. I’ve been a member of the student council for 3 years, serving as VP for this year. Through student council I created the project of raising money in the school to build a well in Africa. I play varsity basketball, but in all honesty, our team is not great. I’ll be captain of the team next year. I also run varsity cross country, but again, not greats stats lol. I’m also a member of the school drug and alcohol abuse prevention club thing. I’ll be attending a future physicians conference this summer.
I’m planning to go for pre-med, but I’m worried that my lack of good classes in high school will affect my grades in college which will lessen my chances of getting into a top med school like I want.
