is having no EC’s besides like football for 2 years gonna hurt applyin a lot? how bout for like college park?

What do you think?

um yeah it looks like you did basically nothing

If the reason that you have no EC are because you worked to help support yourself/ family and you have been doig this for the last 3 years and summers then the lack of EC’s will not hurt you

well then the job would count as an EC

wt if i dont really have much anything tho. i just basically go to school and then ahng out with friends…i dont actually “do” anything…would no EC’s hurt THAT MUCH. iknow its not a good thing to have, but is it a killer?

ummm yea…

If your schedule is basically

School

Hang out with friends

Sleep

Repeat #1-3

Then I would assume you are screwed (for a top college). What could you possibly put on your application?

I think it would depend. Football training and season are pretty tough for students to do other stuff. Though, do u do anything related to it after school season?

umm not particularly. Just two years of football is not that much. Plus the fact that the only thing he’s ever done outside of school is those 2 years of football= not very good.

there are plenty of colleges in this country that accept all callers, and many more are only barely selective. So the OP can definitely go to college somewhere, a decent one in fact. However the people on this board are focused on selective and elite colleges; for these, the OP is out of luck unless he catches the football coaches eye at the college.

EC’s in the college process

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/15/giving/15RAND.html

I saw ur stats (1400 SAT 3.5uw), and if you are in-state you are a lock at UMCP. If out of state, I would say very good chance.

If this daily schedule characterizes the person who will probably not be getting accepted to an elite/selective college, because of no ECs:

" 1. School
2. Hang out with friends
3. Sleep
4. Repeat #1-3 "

What is the daily schedule (in general) for a person who will probably be accepted to a elite/selective college? (I know the question is very abstract and broad, but could you just give some examples)

Thanks

1.school
2.EC
3.homework
4. College Confidential
5. more homework
6. more college confidential
7. repeat 1-6

notice that sleep does not have a place in the schedule.

rofl paul… EC’s matter only @ very selective schools. i bet u can go to other schools with JUST a 4.0+ GPA and 1400+ SAT, like UC’s if u live in california

There is an outline and scoring for the UC process on the parents forum under thread "don’t dabble on your ECs.

For a lot of state schools, ECs are not that important. Many of them are much more numbers driven and place much more weight on your grades and scores.

yea to tenashious who asked if i was out of state or in state, im in state at College Park (maryland). thanks for eveyrone who’s replied so far. oh yea what do u guys think about places like NYU and hopkins? im appling there as reaches…even if i get in i still really like college park more…im just curious. thanks.
