No English class - similar experiences?

So basically most if not all boarding schools require an English teacher recommendation, and I live in a country where English isn’t the first language (Brazil).
My school does have an English class but it only starts next year. Has anyone been in a similar situation? I will contact the schools anyway just wondering

They mean a recommendation in a course covering your native language&literature, or a course covering the language of instruction at your school if an international school. That can be prepared in the original language and filled out on commonapp with the help of an English teacher (or even the student him/herself provided there’s oversight on their translation.)
And of course a teacher of English as a world language is acceptable, as well as other Humanities subjects such as history or philosophy.
