I am really shocked at the outcome of this case – I thought for sure Howard and his cohorts would see some jail time. But then I am not familiar with the statute that defines what constitutes sexual assault in Idaho. It must be very antiquated as I am pretty sure what was done to that boy would constitute sexual assault in most states.

I’ve been following this case as well. There are really no words to adequately describe how I feel about this outcome. It seems privilege strikes again. It reminds me of the Texas teen who basically got off with a slap in the wrist. His name escapes me.
@partyof5, are you referring to Ethan Couch, the 16 year old “Affluenza” kid, who killed four in a drunk driving incident?
This incident is DESPICABLE. I am disgusted with the outcome.
I read the article but did not see what happened to the person who actually inserted the coat hanger. Did he/she have a separate trial? That case seems pretty clear cut. In this case, it sounds like this person kicked the victim in the butt while the coat hanger was in. That is where the confusion to the case comes in. It sounded like the defense was able to raise enough confusion as to whether he even knew something was up his butt or not. It gets to intent.
Terrible crime in any event. So sad.
