The Department of Education is in the process of taking over the domain FAFSA dot com from Student Financial Aid Services, Inc (SFAS). The domain will soon redirect to fafsa.gov.
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) fined Student Financial Aid Services (SFAS) for an illegal recurring billing scheme, the bureau announced Thursday.
One less issue for students to be confused about!
The man who is head of the Student Loan division of the CFPB is a marvel - very smart, very fair.
Will this have a positive affect on the new log in protocols…and setting up these user names and passwords? Or will this further complicate the issue.
I hope it just redirects to the real FAFSA site.
Click on the link and see that the domain transfer and automatic redirect is in process and currently you can click a button to go to fafsa.gov. That’s all it is. This has nothing to do with the FSA ID. There’s still a button to click to go to the old fafsa.com, I presume because people still have accounts there and still need access. I’m not sure what it will take until the fafsa.com accounts are no longer needed.

Here’s a news story about the fine. Looks like people will get reimbursed for the deceptive automatic charges.

Yes I read that yesterday (but I didn’t want to post because you get endless notification when people comment on popular posts.) It seems they were not satisfied with the killing they were making to charge people to file a ‘free’ fafsa, and had to add shady nondisclosed billing to the scheme. I’m glad it ended this way and that 5 million will be restored to those who were ripped off.
Sorry, I totally misread this! This is great news…that FAFSA.com site will cease to exist. GOOD!
